Chris Christie tells the truth about the GOP House

I’ve pulled out some of my favorite quotes:

“There is only one group to blame for the continued suffering of these innocent victims, the House majority and their speaker, John Boehner. This is not a Republican or Democratic issue. National disasters happen in red states and blue states and states with Democratic governors and Republican governors. We respond to innocent victims of natural disasters, not as Republicans or Democrats, but as Americans. Or at least we did until last night.”

Points for saying “Democratic”

“Last night, politics was placed before our oath to serve our citizens. …Last night, the House of Representatives failed that most basic test of public service and they did so with callous indifference to the suffering of the people of my state.”

The House GOP views failure and success through its own prism.

“It (the aid package) overcame all the factual challenges, it just could not overcome the toxic internal politics of the House majority.”

Toxic. So true.

“Americans are tired of the palace intrigue and political partisanship of this Congress, which places one-upmanship ahead of the lives of the citizens who sent these people to Washington, D.C., in the first place. … America deserves better than just another example of the government that has forgotten who they are there to serve and why. Sixty-six days and counting, shame on you. Shame on Congress.”

If they could figure out how to pass an aid package that raised the retirement age for social security… game on!

“And I have to tell you, (disaster relief) used to be something that was not political. You know, disaster relief was something that you didn’t play games with. But now, in this current atmosphere, everything is the subject of one-upmanship, everything is a possibility — a potential piece of bait for the political game.

Yup.

And it’s just — it is why the American people hate Congress. It’s why they hate them. And Governor Cuomo and I are as frustrated as two people can be because, unlike people in Congress, we have actual responsibilities. And we have a responsibility to make things happen.

Christie for the win.
