Fear of a Black Pope

Filed in National by on February 15, 2013

When two are gathered in His name, He is among them. When two conservatives are gathered online, there is unguarded racism. Jesus’ General has the details:

The good conservatives and traditionalist Catholics at View from the Right are very concerned that the next Pope will be off color:. An enthusiastically pale Larry writes:

I hope the cardinals return to the tradition of selecting an Italian as pope. Otherwise this time we may be saddled with a Hispanic, an African, or—God forbid—an American.

Brandon, a man who fervently hopes Edgar Winter will become Pope Albedo I, agrees:

As is typical of the liberal media many headlines are suggesting that the next pope could be black. This is a troubling idea and I hope the cardinals electing the next pope realize it. The liberal media types are suggesting that a Latin or African pope would be good because those are the fastest growing areas for Catholics. The problem I see is the further alienation of Europeans and their descendants…

When are white people ever going to get a break in the Catholic Church?

So unless you control everything, even God, you are alienated.

  2. Jason330 says:

Yep. Everything is reverse racism. EVERYTHING.

  3. pandora says:

That’s only because reverse racism exists, unlike that makey-up racism.

It will, however, allow the NRA to finally add the Catholic Church to its Litany of Scary Things That Guns Are The Antidote For.

  5. Roland D. Lebay says:

It seems Brandon doesn’t realize that most Europeans don’t regularly attend a church of any kind, let alone either flavor of Catholic.

Perhaps the ignorant racist should read wikipedia’s article on church participation.

  6. Delaware Dem says:

Racists were never too keen on the Catholic Church to begin with. Catholics were lumped in with the Jews and those scary blacks as things to be looked down upon by polite WASP society for centuries before the 60’s. Remember how hard it was to elect Kennedy?

  7. Roland D. Lebay says:

    DD-

I don’t “remember” in the traditional sense of the word as Kennedy was killed 6+ yrs. before I was born.

As for white racists, they will typically accept “white” of any religion other than Jews over black or brown people.

The Southern Baptists and other Protestants were afraid of Kennedy’s Catholicism, IIRC. Some bullshit about “bowing to a Roman dictator”.

Mass was said in Latin at the time. “Traditional” (uneducated) southerners didn’t speak/understand Latin (they barely spoke English) & saw Roman Catholicism as a cult/secret society. Sadly, they were actually correct on that count, but for the wrong reasons. The southerners thought RC adherents were evil. In reality, it was (is) the church hierarchy that was (is) evil.

  8. Andy says:

Evangelicals see Roman Catholisism as a Pagan Religion to this day because of the veneration of the Mother Mary and the Saints. They consider this idol worship

  9. Delaware Dem says:

Roland, nor do I “remember” in the normal sense since I was born in 1976.

Why o we still care about these Medieval practices????
