Behold the beauty of our “Club for Growth” style paradise
Oh the oppression of regulations industries are forced to endure in their determination to make a buck.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration most recently inspected the Texas fertilizer plant that exploded Wednesday night in 1985.Thanks to a prolonged and sustain policy of not providing the funding necessary to hire inspectors or do inspections the United States is now officially Bhopalesque.’
Nineteen, nineteen, nineteen – eight five !!!
Prediction : This year more people will be killed in America by uninspected, tainted food than by terrorists.
How on earth does a governmental body like a zoning commission allow THIS kind of situation other than “we put money first!”?
That’s a nursing home, two schools, and two medical facilities within a half mile (most a quarter-mile) of apotential giant bomb.
Un-fucking-believable.
1985 – Thanks Ronald Reagan for unleashing business from government regulation!
This is the kind of environment that businesses are moving to Texas for.
There’s news out there of Teajadi Ted Cruz already asking for Fed help for this. After he showily condemned Sandy relief. I’m not in a place where I can find and post a link right now but it can’t be hard to find.
Well, Republicans always said repealing regulations would lead to explosive growth.
Ted Cruz said: “We are in very close touch with officials on the ground and we’re monitoring the tragic accident closely,” he said at the Capitol. “It’s truly horrific and we are working to ensure that all available resources are marshaled to deal with the horrific loss of life and suffering that we’ve seen.”
So, he did not directly request federal aid. We’ll have see what he does in the coming days.

Hard not to despise Texas even though I know a few Texans who are good and rational people. Ted Cruz remains the lowest of the low in a crowded field of far righties in the senate. Notice that no one will even begin to suggest not giving Texas aid to deal with this disaster.
I don’t think Texas is particularly unique in allowing companies to substitutes an occasional explosion in pace of fines.
Miniscule fines imposed if any by Environmental Protection Agency. Last inspection of the fertilizer plant was in 1985. Everything is big in Texas.
