Sunday Open Thread [6.16.13]

So I guess Jeb Bush is running for President, and he is positioning himself as a conservative…

Said Bush: “[My campaign] will be based on my record. And that record was one of solving problems from completely from a conservative perspective. I cut taxes every year, I shrunk the size of government.”

“I will be able to, I think, manage my way through all the chirpers out there.”

First step in trying to win support of conservative fire breathing fire talking tea bagging idiots who are the base of the Republican Party is to not call them chirpers. These idiots have a very high opinion of themselves, are overly sensitive and do not take any minor or perceived insult well.

Some Sunday polling goodness:

MASSACHUSETTS–U.S. SENATE–Boston Globe: Rep. Edward Markey (D) 54, Gabriel Gomez (R) 41.
NEW JERSEY–GOVERNOR–Stockton College: Gov. Chris Christie (R) 64, State Senator Barbara Buono (D) 24.
NEW JERSEY–U.S. SENATE–DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY–Monmouth: Cory Booker 63, Rush Holt 10, Frank Pallone 8, Sheila Oliver 6.

I saw some CNN reporting on the Markey/Gomez race while in some airports last week — if you were only paying attention to them, you never would have known that Markey is consistently polling comfortably ahead of Gomez. One of the reports I saw used the visits of Biden and Obama to campaign for Markey as a sign of *desperation* on the part of Democrats on this race. Weird. Which isn’t to say that Electon Day may have a completely different result (this one will depend upon turnoutturnoutturnout) — but the CNN narrative had little to do with what actual polling seems to say.

Well since you dropped by cass—Sunday BLT’s have officially begun at my house for the summer.

And THANK YOU to all the fathers who have done their job well. Loving the mothers, modeling for your sons, and demonstrating, communicating to all your children what responsibility looks like in parenting. Added gratitude I have to all those other adult males not listing any offspring, but have risen to the conscientious connection of being an awesome role model in a child’s life via coaching, teaching, neighboring, uncle-ing, or volunteering. My own children can start in w/ all the complaints of “Mom, you didn’t—mom, you forgot, mom you never, mom you always….”–and I just LOVE ending it with, “Whew, I know, I know—I am just so glad, I picked you the BEST for a father”. And they NEVER disagree. Thanks PRC—and your parents too—who raised you “just right”, for the job I got you into! May our daughters never take your example for granted, if they choose to partner and have children—and may our sons, consider seriously, fathering is not a pick-up game, souvenir display, calendared event, or check sent. Being present has been the present. And no doubt has made the difference–for all of us.

Yay for Sunday BLTs! It is a little early here, since my prefered tomato vendor doesn’t have them yet. But can’t wait!

And definitely a big Thanks to all of the Dads (especially mine!) and all of the stand in Dads out there.
