Filed in Delaware by on June 19, 2013

Yes, folks, you know your agenda of social equality has ARRIVED when the Westboro Rat Bastards show up to protest. This is from a Facebook entry:

Westboro Delaware

There is also a Facebook effort to organize a peaceful counter protest across from their picket. The counterprotest is on 1 July, from 7:50am til 8:30am in front of the State Office Building. Join in if you can.

Oh, darn, I think I’ll be out of town that day. I would love to get some video footage of Neanderthals in the wild.

  2. Steve Newton says:

I’m already working on my “why does magnetism work?” sign.

  3. bamboozer says:

Perhaps they could team up with the people who picket Planned Parenthood in Dover, they seem much the same to me.

  4. Meh, these people are as desperate for attention as Sarah Palin or those Kardashians.

Maybe if they spoke more often about their fertility, or got pregnant in public, they too could be reality stars.

  5. cassandra_m says:

Desperate for attention, maybe, but July 1 is the first day for same sex marriages here. They are coming to spoil someone’s day (and they go to Dover after Wilmington).

  6. Jason330 says:

“God Hates Signs!” Is a classic but Delaware needs to raise the bar.

  7. How does this rag-tag collection of misfits even get the money to show up all over the country?

  8. Jason330 says:

They are a lawsuit shop. The basic strategy is to bait someone into taking a swing at them, then they set up a lawsuit that is cheaper to settle than contest.

  9. V says:

Some people are saying they should just be ignored so that nobody falls prey to the lawsuit trick. I’m ok with a peaceful loving wall between them and whoever shows up at the clerk to get married that day. Nobody should have to walk past that on their wedding day.

Oh wow–I just opened the whole post now. This handbill is vile. I am horrifically reminded of old 18th century flyers, handbills, and pushpieces to come see the mentally ill–for entertainment, described as “wild Tazmanians, Devil children etc..”, brought thru on wagons thru the streets. If imprisoned–they were submerged cellars w/ bars, you were allowed to poke sticks thru at them. I am truly nauseous at this indignity scheduled for assembly July 1st.

I don’t know anybody–but have an idea for proposal. And will avail myself July 1st to see this thru. If somebody reading out there wants to reach out who does “have people”–or at least more than me, myself, and I–I’d be willing to discuss. I hate to put Delaware Liberal in the middle—but maybe, they could broker the contact w/ me? Thoughts? Does anyone know if weddings are scheduled for that Monday–or is it just licensure? Thanks– Joanne “trying again to be” Christian

  11. Joanne Christian says:

Oh jason–I will raise the bar.

  12. cassandra_m says:

No idea if weddings are scheduled for that day, but I think that is why the Westboro RB would show up. And go to Dover too.

  13. Delaware Libertarian says:

Why did they single out Lavelle as the one “phony R”? Shouldn’t that be Cloutier in their warped, incoherent bigoted world view?

  14. Krawen Townie says:

I think peaceful counter-protests of man-on-man and woman-on-woman make-out sessions should work nicely, even given the number of hyphens.

I mean really, that’s what Fred Phelps really “desires”. Strike “desires”, “condemns”. Strike “condemns”, “desires”.

Ask him about the candy sales and the mattock handle, or even better ask him about his alleged experience after he decided to join the military (and subsequently did not). Methinks the princess doth protest too much.

Haters gonna hate, and self haters hate the most.

This has been around many times on the net tubes, but just to share a little more of the cult O’Phelps (all apologies to non-threatening cults):

In a strange way, I salute Fred Phelps. I invite Senator Venables to take a photo with him. I’m sure we’ll make it public, hell I’ll even run it through photoshop to adjust the white balance.. It’s extremists like this that help to unveil their enablers.

My Personal favorite is the Human Wall. We can coordinate (or not) shirt color, then stand together between the cultists and their target with our backs to the cultists.

I’m glad you posted this. My office is only as few blocks away… and if there is one thing I love, it’s a freak show. I will be there. I really don’t see what the big deal is.. I include these people in the same category as homeless people who reek of brandy and wear sandwich boards. I don’t find anything offense about them either… They’re just incredibly boring and stupid.

  19. Sidney Jones says:

These people call themselves Christians well they are not even close to being that… If they were they would not judge others because it is against gods will…. People that spew that propaganda are just a waste of space…. Picketing hero’s funerals and now they want to stomp all over people’s right to love anyone they choose to love that is why we are the U.S.A it is called freedom .. crawl back in your hole and stay there we don’t care to hear from you people!!!!!

  20. cassandra_m says:

Indeed. It is as though the Westboro Rat Bastards never heard of What Would Jesus Do.
