More on Beau (Updated).

Filed in National by on August 21, 2013 3 Comments

The AP, through the Huffington Post, is reporting that AG Beau Biden’s bout of fatigue and disorientation in Indiana last week was not the first time symptoms appeared.

Emergency responders were called earlier this month to the home where the son of Vice President Joe Biden has been staying, two weeks before he was hospitalized during a family vacation, authorities said Wednesday. A [New Castle] county dispatch center log indicates that someone at the vice president’s home was reported to be possibly having a stroke and apparently not alert. Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden, 44, has been staying at his father’s Greenville home while his own house is renovated. […]

Rickie Clark, a staff supervisor with the Cranston Heights Fire Co., confirmed Wednesday that county dispatchers received a call for help from Joe Biden’s home. However, he refused to provide further details.

Ok, now Republicans are just insane.

Ok, now Republicans are just insane.

According to a Public Policy Polling survey, 29 percent of Louisiana Republicans say President Obama is more to blame for the botched executive branch response to Hurricane Katrina while just 28 percent blamed George W. Bush. A plurality of 44 percent said they were unsure who was more responsible. Let that sink in for a second while we enjoy a moment of quiet.

Still letting that sink in.

Alright, are you ready? Ok, let’s examine this.

Wednesday Open Thread 8.21.13

Rep. Kerry Bentivolio (R-MI) said he’s consulted with lawyers about impeaching President Obama. From BuzzFeed:

“If I could write that bill and submit it, it would be a dream come true. I stood 12 feet away from the guy and listened to him. I couldn’t stand being there, but because he is president I have to respect the office. That’s my job, as a congressman, I respect the office.”

Bentivolio said that after the encounter with Obama he returned to his office and summoned lawyers to discuss the impeachment process.

Hopefully those lawyers told him that first, you have to have an action on Obama’s part that in some realm of plausible legal theory constitutes a high crime or misdemeanor. In 1998-99, the GOP pursued impeachment BECAUSE they had plausible crimes on President Clinton’s part… perjury and obstruction of justice. Regarding Obama, they have nothing. There is no action that the President has taken that can be considered a high crime or misdemeanor. Impeachment is not a tool available to the opposition party when they do not like the President or are not in favor of his policies. It is for when the President commits a high crime or misdemeanor. And Mr. Bentivolio should know that if he writes up a bill, while there is a question of whether it passes the House, there is no doubt it fails in the Senate. So he is talking about using a nuclear weapon that is guaranteed to blow up in his face.

So, please proceed Congressman.

Beau Biden has a mass in his brain.

Beau Biden has a mass in his brain.

From Allen Loudell:

Multiple sources say the 44-year-old Biden is undergoing tests at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, which U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT has consistently ranked as the nation’s best hospital for cancer treatment.

Usually, people are evaluated at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center for particularly daunting conditions. We already know the Attorney General was evaluated at hospitals in Chicago and Philadelphia. That raises this question: Is Beau Biden being evaluated at M.D. Anderson primarily as a precaution (and it doesn’t hurt to be the son of the Vice President of the United States), or does he really have chronic, complicated issues?

Indeed. This morning, NBC News and the New York Daily News are reporting Beau Biden has a mass in his brain. He is in Houston to figure out whether the mass is malignant.

Mitch McConnell is being squeezed from all over in his re-election bid. From the right, Jim DeMint’s Heritage Center, Brent Bozell’s For America group (and others) are running ads in Tennessee trying to make McConnell’s refusal to shut down the government over Obamacare a liability — making it very difficult for McConnell to appeal to any independents or moderates:

Deputy Treasurer and the Abuse of a State Credit Card

Filed in Delaware by on August 20, 2013 28 Comments

By request of commenter Nuttingham, this topic now has its own thread. The NJ reported on Sunday about the Deputy Treasurer’s misuse of her state-issued credit card. They document about $2100 in personal charges on the card, that were — eventually — reimbursed. The key part of this article (for me, at any rate) was the fact that the Finance Department flagged this pattern of misuse and couldn’t get the attention of anyone in the Treasurer’s Office. Yesterday, the Deputy Treasurer resigned and his morning, the NJ expands the report on her resignation:

Late Night Video — We’re Building a Domestic Army

The man in this video clip says he is a retired Marine Corps Colonel and he is speaking at Concord, NH city council meeting where he Council is considering a request from the Concord PD for armored vehicles. He draws some parallels with the time he spent in Iraq (without equipment like this) and starts to show how Homeland Security standardization of gear makes it easier for PDs to look indistinguishable from an occupying army. This is almost 4 minutes long:
