New State Revenue Estimates Due This Afternoon.

Filed in National by on September 16, 2013

Given concern over the recent Moody analysis that Delaware is the only state in the union that could be facing a recession, and over our stagnant if not rising state unemployment rate, it is going to be interesting to see how the revenue figures are holding up after the Delaware Economic and Financial Advisory Council (DEFAC) meets today. At their last meeting, “officials predicted a 140 million dollar budget gap for fiscal year 2015[.]” So that is the marker that will tell us if our Delaware economy is getting worse or better. If that gap narrows, better. Widens, worse.

The Washington Post has the early news:

The panel lowered its fiscal 2014 revenue estimate by $8 million compared to its June estimate, mostly because of a decline in expected lottery income.

The fiscal 2015 revenue estimate dropped by $16 million compared to DEFAC’s June estimate, with lowered expectations for lottery revenue and corporate franchise and income taxes.

The AP had the news. The Post doesn’t give a crap, and picked it up via an automatic web feed.

How brilliant of you. Especially since the article says it was an AP product at the end.

I was stating a fact and correcting your information, is all. You said the WaPo had the news, presumably because you didn’t bother to read the byline. The WaPo didn’t have a thing to do with that story.

  6. cassandra_m says:

The Washington Post is where the story was to be found (there was a link) — it isn’t atypical the any of the AP subscribers to post or print AP stories.

  7. SussexWatcher says:

Again, the Post had nothing to do with the reporting of the story. It was from a local AP writer and automatically posted to the Post’s website. To claim that the Post “has the early news” is to be wrong. The AP had the early news and the Post merely subscribed to the AP feed.
