This Pope is trying to turn me Catholic
The way things were going under the past two unreformed Nazi Popes, I didn’t think I’d see a Pope talking about how the Church is supposed to enact the gospels of Jesus by being compassionate and serving the poor.
“We have to find a new balance,” he said in the interview, published in Jesuit journals across the world. “Otherwise even the moral edifice of the church is likely to fall like a house of cards, losing the freshness and fragrance of the Gospel.”
He added: “The church’s pastoral ministry cannot be obsessed with the transmission of a disjointed multitude of doctrines to be imposed insistently.”
Finally a pope who acts like a Catholic
Gives new meaning to the question, “Is the Pope Catholic?”
Be on the lookout for bears in porta-potties.

Did hell freeze over today?
Francis, though a Jesuit, speaks and acts in the spirit of his namesake. He reminds me of the Franciscan priests I encountered in college, most of whom made me proud to be Catholic. I see or talk to them and I smile, then I have that smile slapped off my face by any number of U.S. bishops.
Another Mike raises an interesting point (perhaps unintentionally): rhetoric is great, and I’m really appreciative.
But let’s watch what happens when it is time to appoint some new bishops.
Steve… I agree. Let’s put it this way: I am very encouraged. I am also very worried. We all know the Vatican took out John Paul I because he wanted to change things. I hope Francis has a food taster.
DelDem given where Francis came up through the ranks in South America, I’d bet he’s pretty difficult to kill.
Francis telegraphed his views in many ways while he was in Argentina. The College knew who and what they were selecting. Who knows what drove their choice? Still, as with all institutions, some may be filled with joy; others with consternation. American bishops are probably not those filled with joy and we will see how much dissent Francis tolerates, since most Popes adhere to the adage of “my way or the highway.” It’s an interesting time to be Catholic.
Popes are one of the few remaining absolute monarchs. So yes, it is their way or the highway.
2 Nazi- popes- ? Benedict and who else were Nazi popes – you referring to Poland’s favorite son? who faced the horrors of Nazism and Communism like much of Central and Eastern Europe- and broad brush Benedict? a doctrine following theologian really – ? a Nazi
Being Catholic is where it’s at.
Pope Francis has us talking about serious issues and that is good. I hope he continues to challenge us to reflect on our faith and what and who we are called to be.

Most Catholics don’t pay that much attention to the Vatican
