Republicans have a self esteem problem.
Put simply, Democrats are largely content with their own party, while distaste among Republicans for the GOP has grown exponentially this year. The most recent Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll offers a stark window into widening divisions within the GOP over strategy and what kind of leaders Republicans want going forward. The Democratic Party, by comparison, is a picture of unity. […]
In December, just a month after the GOP experienced a string of election losses, nearly two-thirds of all Republicans held a positive view of their party. Ten months later that share has dropped to less than half.
Among those who are more wavering in their ties to the GOP—a group that is nearly twice the size of the party’s most fervent followers—affection for the party in the latest poll dropped to 35%, with almost an equal number saying they viewed the party in a negative light.
This, along with the fact that only 22% of the registered voters in Delaware admit to being Republicans, should be raising some alarm bells somewhere.
This is also what happens when the GOP hate their own party.
“I simply cannot stand with a party where its most extreme element promote hate and division amongst people,” said Thigpen, 36. “Nothing about my platform has, nor will it change. The government shutdown was simply the straw that broke the camel’s back. I guess being an American just isn’t good enough anymore and I refuse to be part of an extremist movement in the GOP that only appears to thrive on fear and hate mongering of anyone and everyone who doesn’t walk their line.”
Awesome.
I agree, Ted Cruz or not the shutdown was the end for many Republicans, their not buying the far right stuff the party is pedaling these days. Don’t expect this to impact the Republican agenda in any way, their on their own planet at this point. And just wait until their antique base wakes up to what they want to do to Medicare and Social Security. But we’re not there yet, but we will be.
