“High-ranking Democratic Official” announces primary against Chip Flowers
Not a primary opponent – just a primary. That’s news, right? And who did this “high-ranking Democratic official” huff the news to? Celia, of course.
As a high-ranking Democratic official huffed, “We cannot afford not to primary him, because if we don’t, we will lose that seat, because there are a lot of Democrats like me who won’t vote for him.”
No Democrat has come forward to run yet, but it may just be a matter of time.
The Republicans do not have a candidate, either, although there is talk about Ken Simpler Jr., a financial professional from Newark with a diploma from Princeton in political economics and advanced degrees from the University of Chicago.
Do I sound jealous? I stopped wondering if any high-ranking Democratic official was ever going to huff anything in my direction about two years ago. We all play our little part in these performances – the blogging aids monkey and the courtesan. An exit here, an entrance there.
By the way, if I wrote that I’d have said – “…there is talk about Ken Simpler Jr., a financial professional from Newark with a diploma from Princeton in nearly killing underage undergraduates with alcohol.”
Maybe that’s why nobody huffs to me?
Karen Weldin Stewart, Chip Flowers, Jack Markell are the only statewide electeds who had competitive primaries to win their seats and the party was on the other side of each of those.
Hmmmm….So if the party wants Flowers to lose, they should endorse him?
Jason….not very nice. The Party is getting better. Markell beat Carney by 1700 votes. Stewart beat the endorsed candidate ( forgot his name but I have slept with him every night since the day he was born) by only 1100. At that rate, the endorsed candidate will win soon.
um Paul Clark and Renee Taschner were endorsed. NCC is the primary.
I was actually thinking about the KWS / Gene Reed primary, but you’re right that she wasn’t really backed either time.
I’d like to see a fresh face primary him. Someone who’s actually earned their stripes at the grass roots level in the party. Not someone who’s already elected and wealthy enough to pay their own way. A financial background would be a plus!!
Jim: I think someone emotionally stable and smart enough to hire qualified people would be enough. Just b/c someone has already been elected doesn’t mean they haven’t earned their stripes at the grassroots level.
For example, Bryon Short’s campaign in the special election in the 7th RD was a great grassroots effort. He’s emotionally stable and smart enough to hire decent people. I don’t care if he has an accounting degree or not. He’s not insane. Which is an improvement.

This no apology tour and blaming others- in stops in the Kent and New Castle subdivisions doesn’t serve Chip’s larger political ambitions.

Paul Gallagher may be a good candidiate.
He ran a clean campaign and came out looking pretty good in the
primary for insurance commissioner.

KWS wins first of all because women pull the lever for her, and she got into office in the first place because the senior Gene Reed foolishly gave his son the same name. She squeaked through on incumbency, and the vote of women who pay no attention to the office, against Crane.
The other two faced primary opponents with major flaws. About VPJ, let’s just say that those of us who thought her do-nothing city contract was telling stand vindicated. And Carney was so obviously a Carper mini-me that people were willing to take the chance on Markell — and, given Carney’s record in Washington, I would argue those people were vindicated as well.

Markell was elected by Republicans in n the Democratic Primary
Markell had to get 49 percent of already-registered Democrats to vote for him before the three percent of the primary electorate that switched registration from R or I could be the two point margin of victory.
Because those party switchers were unable to switch back in time to rescue Castle from the O’Donnell surge, Chris Coons’ life got easier and the Republican State Committee got overrun.
To Geezer’s point, the party raised and spent massively on that primary for Governor, which did not happen for Gene Reed, Mitch Crane or Velda.
@Nuttingham: Good point. And they haven’t given up yet. What if Denn is getting wishy-washy not because of Beau, but because Carney wants another shot and the party is ready to give it to him?
