RIP, Madiba

Filed in International by on December 5, 2013

You’ve all heard by now that Nelson Mandela died peacefully at his home this evening. His is among the most heroic political and personal stories I have ever heard, and am still informed by.

Good journey home, Madiba. We will be as proud of you as an ancestor as we are of you as a warrior.

From PBS Frontline, The Long Walk of Nelson Mandela (approx. 2 hours long)

Not unexpected, but terribly sad anyway.

  3. I don’t know whether there was a greater, more impactful person on this earth during my lifetime than Nelson Mandela.

What a life, what a legacy.

One of the great figures of world history. Mandela’s story transcends politics. It is bigger than simply justice out lasting injustice through the application of some supernatural resolve or will power.

It is a story of humanity’s natural dominion over inhumanity. It is a refutation of all the fear and dread that we allow to guide our lives on a daily basis – and guide our politics when we give into fear and hatred.

@el s… I have a friend in Stellenbosch, SA and I was speaking with him yesterday about the great man’s legacy. I agree. I think Mandela is absolutely the person who made the most positive impact on the earth during my lifetime. I can’t even imagine who might be runner up… Churchill and FDR were dead before I was born and MLK didn’t live long enough unfortunately.
