Brenda Mayrack announces candidacy for Delaware State Auditor

(Wilmington) — Brenda Mayrack, an attorney and small business owner, announced her candidacy today for Delaware State Auditor. Mayrack made the announcement on Delaware Day, December 7th, which celebrates the day that Delaware became the first state to ratify the United States Constitution in 1787. It also happens to be her 36th birthday.

Mayrack pledged to bring a renewed focus to protecting taxpayer dollars to the State Auditor’s office. “Delawareans’ hard earned tax dollars do not belong to the government. Taxpayers, whether they are individuals or businesses, deserve a State Auditor who will improve accountability, transparency, and innovation in our state government,” she said. “As State Auditor, I will look for new ways to use technology to ensure that our valuable tax dollars are spent properly and put to their best use.”

Mayrack, a Democrat, has extensive experience with audits as an attorney specializing in unclaimed property. As State Auditor, her immediate priorities include a comprehensive review of credit card use by state employees and increased protections for whistleblowers. She brings energy, experience, and a new vision for an office charged with ensuring that taxpayer dollars are spent effectively.

Tom Wagner’s argument for his re-election doesn’t give Copeland much credit.

They have no other office to go after but mine. The only thing separating the state from being one-party controlled is the auditor’s office,” Wagner said.

    He is the last redoubt.

  2. Nuttingham says:

Good message, good resume, good team. She mayrack up a big win.

  3. Mobull says:

    Who’s her team?

  4. jason330 says:

Does Tom Wagner have any accomplishments to run on? I’m seriously asking.

  5. Mobull says:

    Suspenders

  6. Tim says:

An accomplishment of keeping the same state auditor website he launched when the Internet was created.

might be the worst government website ever!!

Look at Brenda’s resume…very impressive. I also like how she’s immediately going to audit credit card spending. Watch out chip!!!!!

  7. Charlotte Garrison says:

I have been told that Paul Gallagher will also be announcing his candidacy for Auditor very soon.
He ran a very impressive campaign for Insurance Commissioner and had a lot of downstate support too.

  8. Mitch Crane says:

What exactly qualifies as ” a lot of support downstate”? Mr. Gallagher received 657 votes in Kent County out of 4,524 cast. I received 1844, KWS 1413 and Mr. Spivack 610.
Mr. Gallagher received 1,010 votes in Sussex County. I received 3,893. Ms. Stewart 2,054 and Spivack 935. That means in downstate Paul Gallagher received 13% of the vote. In choosing a candidate for Auditor of Accounts, the voters downstate will be looking at qualifications for THAT office, as well as positions on issues and will choose the person most likely to do what the job requires-AUDIT ACCOUNTS-all of them. Speaking as an individual only, I see no reason why Branda Mayrack would not be the choice of the Democrats in Sussex County next September.

  9. Charlotte Garrison says:

Wow Mitch, you did so well you had all of the party support and still lost.
It’s always about you and your special friends.
Gallagher cost you the election and you know it.
Lawyers like you think you are qualified for any political office.
    You are not!
He had better and more insurance experience than you.
Sometimes you should just shut up and find another hobby.

  10. Mitch Crane says:

Yes, Charlotte, Paul probably cost me the election. I am sure the people of Delaware will thank him for that. I lost. I do not claim otherwise. I also do not claim to have “done well in lower Delaware”. Paul ran a very good campaign for Insurance Commissioner-a job he was qualified for. I was also qualified, and not because I am an attorney, but because of my experience in the IC office. It is not about me-I am not running for Auditor. It is about what and who is best for Delaware. That is why I ran for Insurance Commissioner and am NOT runnig for Auditor. I was not seeking to have a job but to do one.

Just judging from only two comments, i get the impression that Gallagher was the spoiler thrown in by the Delaware Way to save KWS, and is now being groomed to do the same to save Tom. Hmm. Why am i getting this feeling?

  12. Jason330 says:

I’m getting the feeling that your feeling is prescient.

  13. Nuttingham says:

Who do you think is behind the Delaware Way under that theory?

  14. Jason330 says:

    Bob Gilligan.

  15. kavips says:

    The Skipper too…

    A millionaire….

    (And his wife….)
