Finance Committee Hearing on the Bonds for the MBNA Charters on Monday
We talked about this here, when this item first came onto the City Council calendar. Monday — January 6, 2014 — at 5:00 is the Finance Committee hearing that will explore this proposal in some detail. You can see the agenda for the meeting here — this is the only item on the schedule. The meeting is open to the public, and is going to be held in the 1st Floor Council Workshop room (next to the Council Chambers) in the Redding Bldg. Pass this info along to anyone you think will be interested in what happens here.

That same night at the Triangle Neighborhood meeting a a presentation will be made by a representative from Freire Charter School in Philly, that wants to open a charter here.
Freire Charter School
Bill Porter from Freire Charter School of
Philadelphia will present Freire’s plans to
start a Freire Charter School in Wilmington
in 2015. Freire is a college prep school that
serves mostly low income students. 88% of
its Philadelphia graduates are in college.
Enough with the Charters, the number of Charters is getting beyond ridiculous.
Also, I saw on Jea Street’s Facebook page that REACH Academy for girls won in court and will remain open, at least in the coming year.
Ugh. The Triangle meeting conflict is really unfortunate. I have another commitment, but will try to make one of the meetings. Reach Academy… another ugh. That school actually went backwards academically, but… hey! Charter!
It’s raining charters! My money is still on Wilmington turning into a charter district – with a few public schools (to take the kids charters “counsel” out.)
