The sunlight is beginning to slant in a spring-like way, and it is time for the forsythia and crocuses to think about blooming – but everything is covered in ice.
Phil: When Chekhov saw the long winter, he saw a winter bleak and dark and bereft of hope. Yet we know that winter is just another step in the cycle of life. But standing here among the people of Punxsutawney and basking in the warmth of their hearths and hearts, I couldn’t imagine a better fate than a long and lustrous winter.
…Be thou, Spirit fierce,
My spirit! be thou me, impetuous one!
Drive my dead thoughts over the universe,
Like wither’d leaves, to quicken a new birth;
And, by the incantation of this verse,
Scatter, as from an unextinguish’d hearth
Ashes and sparks, my words among mankind!
Be through my lips to unawaken’d earth The trumpet of a prophecy! O Wind,
If Winter comes, can Spring be far behind?
Ha! Love it. On a more serious/realistic note, I lived over near Pandora for a year (winter of 2010). We had 4 snows of any accumulation and I think 2 of them were over 12″ each. This winter isn’t a cataclysm. It’s mid February. It’ll be spring when earth swings a bit further round the sun and its axial tilt is more beneficial for us in the Northern Hemisphere. Another 5 weeks or so till the vernal equinox. This isn’t Atlanta. We’ll make it without Armageddon, I’m sure.

Somebody once said;
“March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb.”
And that’s usually the case.
I miss you, Dorian!
Meanwhile, went to the store and stocked up on fun “snowstorm” food, and, of course, hit Kreston’s! I’m ready!
