On this day the Tea Party stopped being an actual thing
The item below is a good news/bad news type deal for Democrats. The good news is that the Tea Party is completely defunct as a movement with the ability to wield any power. Except for some reality impaired dead-enders and their wealthy enablers, nobody is going to utter the words “Tea Party” as anything other than a punchline from now on. The bad news for Democrats is that the Tea Party is defunct. The “grassroots” movement that allowed Christine O’Donnell to challenge Michael Castle will not be around to run its reign of terror party purges in future elections.
The majority of them are fleas by now.
Which member of Congress is (probably) emailing other members crazy threats? BuzzFeed’s John Stanton reports that a number of House Republicans received emails — sent to their internal congressional email addresses, addresses that are extremely difficult to find for non-members — in which an anonymous person threatened to politically ruin members who vote to raise the debt limit. The author first sent the cryptic threats to Speaker John Boehner and Rep. James Lankford, and then forwarded the emails to other members. … Who could’ve sent these strange emails?
“It’s got to be another member. Probably one of the crazy ones,” said a Republican who had seen the email, which was sent from an anonymous email address, unrepresentative1@gmx.com.
One of the “crazy” Republicans? That narrows it down as much as if they had said, “Probably an overweight white guy”.

On the other hand…never mind(?). Has the Teabag virus so infected the GOP host that there is no frontal lobe activity left, and therefor you could say that the Tea Party is the GOP? One could make a case…
Priebus said Monday on MSNBC that the Monica Lewinsky scandal is fair game when it comes to evaluating Hillary Clinton’s potential presidential bid. “I think everything’s on the table,” Priebus told Andrea Mitchell.
That’s gonna do it. It worked so well last time out.
Yeah, the Monica Lewinsky thing should help them get the female vote.
I’m skeptical of these teajahdis no longer being a thing. The Liberal Media chases them to record every single bit of their stupidity AS IF there was something legitimate about it, pretty much making it legitimate. Plus, it is looking like the Chamber of Commerce wing of the GOP is gearing up to beat the crap out of the teajhadis this election year. You don’t do that for something that is no longer a thing. I think that they’ve been crippling the GOP (witness the complete surrender on the debt limit) and their approval ratings are completely in the toilet. And if they are still around crippling the GOP and helping them to lose elections, that works for me.
joe Scarborough sounds like he is channelling Occupy WallmStreet this morning. He is practically a fascist, and ifnhenthinks there is on opening for populist, economically progressive conservatives to retake the party from tea bags, maybe it is possible.
“populist, economically progressive conservatives”
LOL.. Republicans are incapable. The essence of progressivism is: Tax the rich to invest in the economy. Any Repub who lifts a finger in that direction will lose ntheir corporate funding and a good portion of grassroots support. Imagine the Delaware GOP on a national scale.
It is at appealing idea for Repubs to take over the ground Democrats have abandoned and become the trust-busting pro-labor party while leaving the pro-corporate tax-fearing Dems to be the dinosaur party – but that’s a fantasy.
Ultimately the party that supports the interests of the rich is an inherent electoral minority.
The “Scarborough” branch of the Republican Party is trying to put their crazy relative (the Tea Party) back in the attic. They aren’t kicking the crazy relative (or their crazy policies) out of the house – They simply want them, once more, out of sight.
The “establishment” Republicans aren’t interested in kicking the tea party out, (they can NOT win an election without them) only in changing their name/brand. They’ll put a dress on Uncle Tea Party and start calling him Aunt Freedom Party and they’ll hold this up as change. Come election time, they’ll then replace Uncle Tea Party with non-crazy talking Aunt Freedom Party and hope nobody looks under the dress to discover that Auntie holds exactly the same policy positions as their nutty relative.
It’s why “Aunt” Christie worried us. It’s why we shudder at “Aunt” Paul Ryan being portrayed as reasonable. The policies are the same – the packaging is better.
Do I loose my liberal card if I say that comment creeped me out?
The nature of progress in democracies is that it only goes in one direct. Forward not back. Very often it is slow, sometimes at an evoluntionary pace, but always forward. In the politics of social issues this is especially true. Once people get civil rights and freedoms recognized, we never go back.
Slavery, women’s sufferage, alcohol prohibition, social security, interracial marriage, right to choose abortion, gay marriage, Obamacare… these are all settled issues. I read somewhere that Ted Cruz is sponsoring some ban on gay marriage. I personally think that’s fucking hilarious. Pissing into a strong headwind comes to mind.
The tea party is the political version of reality TV. The cable news needs lines drawn and fights and such, but honestly it’s not a real thing. I mean the people are real, like Honey Boo boo or those moms that enter their daughters into those beauty pageants. I mean that happens… that’s a thing. But it’s a freak show and nothing more.
How, at the same time the Tea Party “rose to power” did Obamacare become law… and upheld by the SCOTUS? It’s foddle for the Soup. Kim Kardashian = Christine O’Donnell. A US Rep brought that Duck guy to the SOTU. It was never an actual thing in the sense that it did anything other than get dolts and castoffs on TV in stupid costumes listening to Glenn Beck speak. What could be more made for TV than that?
You may keep your card, J. I was just keeping with the theme – Joe Scarborough is creepy. And I’ll stand by my vividly creepy point! 😉
There is no real ‘TEA (Taxed Enough Already) Party.’ The acronym represents an idea; smaller government and lower taxes.
Rand Paul, Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio- to name only three- were all aligned to the TEA Party movement during their campaigns, are all currently serving in the US Senate and are all vociferous advocates of smaller government and reduced taxes.
If the TEA Party is dead, so be it- the dogma is very much alive and well.
There we go. The postmodern propaganda machine rolls through again.
Is there something untrue about what I posted? Please explain.
The tea party is swirling down the bowl. Only the Foxistas believe their nonsense.
Tea Party dead? Sussex Countians haven’t seen the obituary based on what I hear coming out of their mouths constantly. Talk of hoarding silver and guns preparing for end times predominates in these parts.
Brock, They’ve always been with us. But the media and the main parties never gave power to those folks. I see us returning to that status quo. The elimination of the “hastert rule” is just the first bit of water over the dam.
