Markell v. Arizona
If only the socially progressive Governor Markell was also the economically progressive Governor Markell. Well, I will enjoy the former…
Delaware Gov. Jack Markell (D) spoke out against the controversial anti-gay bill in Arizona Monday, stating that if Gov. Jan Brewer (R) signs it into law, the state should not be allowed to host the Super Bowl next year in Glendale.
“It seems to me if they pass this law and if she signs it, the NFL may be looking, or maybe should be looking, to move the Super Bowl out of that state. There are so many places around the country that are welcoming to everybody,” he said in an interview on MSNBC with host Ronan Farrow.
Go to the Huffington Post to watch the video. Once the MSNBC link is live, I will ditch that non-embed sharing Huffpo piece of crap link.
The Democratic spawn of Bill Clinton. You can like gays and pot, but you have to LOVE cutting the taxes of your wealthiest patrons.
Well, he’s right about the Super Bowl.
If he were thinking about economic development, he would have offered to put a football field on the infield at Dover Downs.
Arizona already lost one Super Bowl due to intolerance.
They were supposed to host the 1993 Super Bowl, but (from Washington Post):
“A sharp debate over the (Martin Luther King) holiday persisted over the next few years, leading up to a statewide vote in 1990. Voters narrowly rejected the holiday. Paul Tagliabue, the NFL commissioner at the time, honored what he said before the vote and announced that he would urge owners to move the 1993 game out of the state.
“The Super Bowl is a major and unique event, and the game should be played free of controversy when possible,” Tagliabue said of the decision.
Not long after the vote, the NFL owners took the 1993 Super Bowl away from Arizona and awarded it to Pasadena, Calif. (One study said the Los Angeles region saw $183 million in new business the month of the game.) The owners also tentatively awarded the 1996 Super Bowl to Arizona — but only if the state adopted the holiday. That finally happened in 1992, making Arizona among the last states in the country to approve the King holiday.
So this BS is catching — Lobbyist Drafts a Bill to Ban Gays from the NFL
Guess that is one way to get around the Superbowl in AZ problem.
Wanna bet that the next pushback against anti-gay sentiment is directed at clients of this lobbying firm? Can you see the letters and calls for groups and companies to drop the lobbyist? When will these idiots learn to keep their prejudices to themselves?
Oh yes, this lobbying firm will soon be bankrupt. The bigots of this country have Russia and Uganda to move to if they want government sanctioned discrimination.
You have to ask yourself, does Delaware feel any better since May 7, 2013? I hope Markell gets kicked upstairs in the Obama regime so he can start “helping” outside Delaware. He’d make a good ambassador to Uganda, or maybe Antarctica.
Do we feel any better now that all Delawareans can marry whom they love? Yes, I sure do. Only an evil hateful disgusting bound-for-hell bigot could say that they don’t feel better. I guess Classiccom is one of those.
While I’m happy and proud we passed gay marriage, I don’t feel any differently – and neither does anyone else, despite what conservatives predicted.
Arizona sucks… That’s my 2 cents (Oh how eloquent)
