Coons’ fundraising email tries to cover too many bases

Senator Coons needs money to fight the horrible Tea Party, but also bipartisanship is AWESOME!!! (…or something, it made sense to the fundraising consultant.) Anyway, in addition to the philosophically hazy email, Coons is sitting on $2.9 million and has no GOP opponent, so I’ll probably sit this round out.

Dear Jason330,
We’ve all heard that the best defense is a good offense. That’s never been truer than this year.
You may have seen the numerous news reports that the Republicans now have about a 50/50 chance of retaking the Senate this fall. The Tea Party Patriots have formed a new Super PAC that, according to The Hill, plans “to engage heavily in Senate races.”

If we want to keep the special interests out of Delaware, we’ve got to show our campaign is organized and energized. That means hitting our $15,000 February fundraising goal by midnight on Friday. Are you with us?

I certainly agree that the Republicans are horrible. What do you have in mind?

Click here to contribute $250 or more right away – before Friday’s deadline. Help protect our Democratic majority and keep our country moving forward.

While the nightly news tends to focus on the infighting and gridlock on Capitol Hill, there is a small, bipartisan group of us working together to get things done for families like yours.

Man oh man. A small group? Like you and Tom Carper perhaps? That counts as a bipartisn group, right? But are there any actual Republicans involved in this small group? I sure would like Senator Coons to NAME ONE of these great bipartisan minded GOP senators we hear about from time to time.

For my part, I’m fighting to protect the most vulnerable in our communities, pass critical new protections for victims of sexual assault in the military, restore and rebuild our country’s crumbling infrastructure, and increase the number of women and people of color in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

I can tell you, however, that if the Tea Party takes control of the Senate – as they’re working state by state to do – these and other common sense priorities will go right out the window.

Wait, what? We are back to the utterly horrible Teaparty? Hmmm… now I don’t know whether to be scared of the teabags or uplifted by the notion that there is an unnamed GOP Senator somewhere in Washington working with Senator Coons to “rebuild our country’s crumbling infrastructure.”

I’m not about to sit back and let that happen, but I’ve got to be prepared to beat the special interests determined to buy the Senate. Will you help us hit our $15,000 February goal with a contribution now?

Click here to donate $250 or more now. With more than a dozen ultraconservative Super PACs raising millions to take over the Senate, we can’t miss a single goal.

Thanks, as always, for your friendship and support.
Best—
Chris

I’ll pass. Hit me me up when you have a sincere talk with Carper about defending Democratic principles, or when the mythological sane Republican Senator works with you to do something…anything.

Or maybe, just stop lying about how great bipartisanship is. Go whole hog on how bad the teaparty is, and end it there. We all know the teaparty IS the GOP, so saying the GOP is sensible, but the teaparty is crazy simply makes no sense and undercuts your appeal.
