Finally a breath of FRESH air .Go SEAN . Good luck.

  2. SussexAnon says:

If by fresh air you mean a puppet being pushed by the gov. then, yeah.

  3. I think Capes meant ‘breath of FRESH air’ as in ‘he won’t be an embarrassment’.

To the State or to himself.

    You know what? He won’t.

  4. Black Cobain says:

Lol.. Sussex, don’t forget, El will support almost anything the Governor shovels our way.

  5. anon says:

Sean Barney is the ethical choice against the crook.

  6. Nuttingham says:

Hopefully if Sean wins he won’t abandon Chip’s new traditions of putting all of the Treasurer’s office documents on fake fancy parchment and referring to himself in the third person as “The Treasury.”

  7. Yeah, Black Cobain, you must be a diligent reader of this blog.

Nobody has kissed Markell’s butt more than I have.

  8. puck says:

Let’s hear what Barney has to say before we decide who’s the bigger embarrassmen, or who is ethical or not. I hope the orogressive Dems have some progressive questions for him that will reveal some answers.

  9. AQC says:

I actually laughed out loud when I read Black Cobain’s comment!

  10. capesdelaware says:

AMEN, breath in ,breath out and open mind. Go ahead SEAN.

  11. puck says:

Knowing everything we know today – what questions would you ask Treasurer Candidate Tom Carper? We have to make sure we aren’t creating another Carper/Coons/Carney for the next generation.

  12. SussexWatcher says:

Exactly, puck! We already have the next Janet Rzewnicki in power.

  13. Delaware Dem says:

Puck, I think he will be asked those questions tonight. It is not exactly a warm and loving crowd.

  14. Delaware Dem says:

Hell, Puck… you should attend and ask those questions yourself!

  15. puck says:

I can’t attend, unfortunately. Perhaps some progressive can ask him if he is still a member of Third Way, and if he supports Third Way’s call for a reduction in Social Security benefits and the Bowles Simpson proposals From 2006:

Sean Barney is a Senior Policy Advisor at Third Way. Serving in that capacity, Sean has been an integral part of the first year of this organization, and his outstanding work played a significant role in our development and on much of the content found on the pages of this website.

In local issues, I hope someone asks if he would support a modest marginal tax increase on the top brackets in Delaware – or does he think that would be “anti-growth.”. Maybe someone can ask him about topping up Delaware’s “heat and eat” program for SNAP. And – would be be willing to call for CPMB reform, specifically disclosure and/or term limits?

  16. Jason330 says:

That mother fucker. I knew I hated his leatherneck ass. But seriously folks, I’d ask those excellent questions but I expect to be too mesmerized by his dreamy blue eyes, and his solid grasp of ‘Milton Friedman’s work on liberating corporations to pursue profits and the myriad of social benefits that flow from that freedom.

  17. SussexAnon says:

His recent fundraising letter is filled with just as many platitudes as the video on his website. The letter sounds like someone who didn’t read the assignment and gets called on by a teacher

“As treasurer, I will be treasurer to ensure the treasury has, ya know, treasure in it?” Or something like that.

In other words, I will do what the Gov. wants and not rock the boat, despite said Gov. being quite the boat rocker back in his days as treasurer.

  18. Jason330 says:

“As treasurer, I will be treasurer.”

If only Chip had stuck to that mission statement…. *sigh*

  19. SussexAnon says:

Yeah its not like previous treasurers haven’t tried to expand and reinvent the office.

I must be the only one seeing the irony in Markell taking on the Treasurer with a primary for challenging him. I mean, Markell CERTAINLY didn’t ruffle any feathers with Minner now did he?

I am sure Tom Wagner thinks hes doing the job as auditor, too.

Barney is either being used by Markell or Barney is using this to leapfrog up the DelawareWay ladder and be the new face of the “moderate” (read practically republican) wing of the Democratic party to carry on the “good name” of Carper and Markell.

  20. Jason330 says:

    I see the later. (ladder)

  21. Nuttingham says:

    So how was the meeting?

Was it anything like an open thread on this blog, where a state legislator might pop in to yell at people?

  22. jason330 says:

While it was nice for Barney to address a PDD meeting (full disclosure – I didn’t attend), this is not the primary you are looking for. Since we now accept that Delaware is a one party state, we need primary elections that challenge the status quo. Primaries in which “the little guy” is represented by at least one of the Democrats.

This primary will not replace someone who is locked into Biden/Carper’s patronage system with someone who is not locked into the Biden/Carper patronage system. It is a sideshow.
