Friday Open Thread [3.14.14]
IOWA–PRESIDENT–Quinnipiac: Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton 48, Christopher James Christie, 35; Clinton 49, Randal Howard Paul 39; Clinton 51, Rafael Edward Cruz 35; Clinton 51, John Ellis Bush 37.
Over half — 55 percent — of Iowa voters say Clinton would make a good president, making her the only listed candidate to receive a positive score.
South Carolina U.S. Senate candidate Dave Feliciano (R), a teabagging Christine O’Donnell wannabe, is challenging Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC). Said Feliciano: “It’s about time that South Carolina says hey, We’re tired of the ambiguously gay senator from South Carolina. We’re ready for a new leader to merge the Republican Party. We’re done with this. This is what it’s about, all of us coming together and saying, one way or the other, one of us is going to be on that ballot in November.”
Given the homophobia of the right, I bet his poll numbers go up.
ILLINOIS–GOVERNOR–REPUBLICAN PRIMARY–We Ask America: Bruce Rauner (R) 46, Kirk Dillard (R) 26, Bill Brady (R) 19 and Dan Rutherford (R) 9%. The primary is next week.
NATIONAL–OBAMACARE–Bloomberg Poll: 64% of Americans now support the law outright or back small changes. The war is over. The radical right has lost yet another battle with Obama.
LOUISIANA–US SENATE–Hickman Analytics (D): Rep. Bill Cassidy (R) 46, Sen. Mary Landrieu (D) 42.
NORTH CAROLINA–US SENATE–Hickman Analytics: Sen. Kay Hagan (D) 45, Thom Tillis (R) 41
NORTH CAROLINA–US SENATE–Public Policy Polling: Hagan 45, Tillis 43
“It’s about time that South Carolina says hey, We’re tired of the ambiguously gay senator from South Carolina.”
The one redeeming quality of Teabags is how unguarded they are about their prejudices. And it also happens to be the the only thing that currently distinguishes them from typical Republicans.
If these people knew how to hide their prejudices, they would already have control of the Senate.
It is remarkable how since 2008, Republicans have taken the mask off and are willing to go in public showing their true deformity. Where they used to just lobby to tamp down the rate of growth, mainstream elected Republicans are now openly calling for the destruction or drastic shrinkange of safety net programs, including Social Security.
These are hugely popular programs, so this is a huge untapped opportunity for Democrats. Republicans now have both arms wrapped tightly around the third rail with little or no consequences, and seem to have lost their fear of it. Hell, Repubs can even win in Florida on this platform. Democrats need to turn the power back on the third rail and watch all the rats drop off. Including Tom Carper. It also didn’t help that Obama spent much of his term in a serious flirtation with austerity and Social Security cuts.
Odd how Repub policy on the one hand increases the need for the safety net, yet with the other hand they want to take the net away. And somehow they manage to convince voters that Democrats are responsible for the increased safety net spending.
You are right. The GOP has nothing to fear from the Delaware delegation, other than perhaps them getting a little stalker-y in their affection.
I love the cartoon. My teenaged daughter is a beautiful freckle-faced redhead & she’d shred the asshole boy in the cartoon.
Yes, she looks like her mom, though her mom isn’t a redhead.
