My Progressive Endorsement is for Matt Denn (and I’m putting money where my mouth is)

Filed in Delaware, National by on August 14, 2014

There are some questions swirling around the PDD endorsements, but here is someone all progressives, …hell… all of DELAWARE can endorse, Matt Denn.

He is a legit Robert Kennedy Democrat seeking statewide office, so if you consider yourself a progressive, get off your ass and send him money. If you do I’ll match it up to a total of $500.

Mark your donation with 3 cents added, so the Denn team can tell me how much I owe. Hopefully that is a quick $1,000 bucks to a guy who makes me proud to call myself a Democrat.

For the last time, if a candidate does not complete a survey, he or she cannot get an endorsement. Matt Denn is a progressive in my view, but he did not complete a survey, so no endorsement from the PDD.

    So… $25.03 ? You can swing it.

  3. Delaware Dem says:

I’ve been giving to Denn before it was cool. 🙂 But I’ll do it again.

  4. John Young says:

DelDem, I get that there’s a process, and that’s fine. However, that process may expose you to not endorsing what is plainly obvious with regards to available candidates to put your “stamp of approval” on. (ecp)

That seems like a process with flaws, kinds like the DSEA favored incumbent process that endorsed Tony Deluca over Bryan Townsend.

It’s PDD’s process so they can do whatever they want, just know it may erode their own credibility unwittingly in the eyes of some. If it were me, the PDD could endorse any candidate it wishes pursuant to a membership vote with a preference for a questionnaire, but not as a requirement.

  5. It was ALWAYS cool to give to Matt. I’m in for $25.03.

  6. Delaware Dem says:

Well, John, I invite you to our fall membership meetings, as massive reforms to the process will be discussed. For all of you who complain every year, this would be your moment to change it. But, as before, you likely won’t show up, and the more strident voices will win the day. And then you can complain two years from now all over again.

One of the things that might be useful is figuring out *how* to get greater participation especially at signature meetings like this. Speaking for myself, I’m about as overcommitted to civic projects as it gets and the first Wednesday of the month is not doable. Some people here who might want to participate work in the evening. Or they are taking care of their families. We’re not wingnuts committed to jihad here.

  8. Jason330 says:

I’ll take up DD on the “complain two years from now” option.

  9. cassandra_m says:

I imagine I will too. It’s Delaware, so a closed system is the instinct of most organizations here. Still, I suspect that one of the big reasons why folks we expected to be endorsed were not is that there’s no reason for a PDD endorsement.

  10. Delaware Dem says:

Indeed. For easier to criticize than to get involved once a month. Which makes your criticism as credible as you find the PDD endorsements.

  11. Jason330 says:

DD I respect your work with PDD, but to be honest JK totally co-opted the last few meetings I attended and did so in a way that left a long lasting bad taste in my mouth.

Sure… it was a while ago, but I have no time for that.

Actually it is. Did you even read my previous comment about being overcommitted? I’ve had a standing first Wednesday of the month meeting since I first moved here. Certainly that isn’t your problem, but dropping everything to get to this meeting isn’t an option for some of us. Can that be so difficult to understand?

Actually it was close to four years ago that you last attended and your attendance record prior was sparse at best. But let me refresh your memory of the last meeting of PDD you ever attended. There was an election for President of PDD and when “your candidate” lost, (in a fair and honest vote, not only not co-opted by me but conducted by Bob Stachnik, one of the most honorable men of integrity I’ve ever met), to “Paul Baumbach” you left and never returned to another meeting.

    J.K.

  14. Jason340 says:

Please. You made a complete ass out of yourself, but it seems to be your thing so carry on.

  15. Nuttingham says:

I’m assuming “JK” stands for “just kidding” and isn’t actually a post by a state legislator, right?

  16. AQC says:

DD, I’m not trying to be offensive, and I don’t know how open you are to feedback, but my experience has been that PDD is very cliquish and not open to newcomers getting involved. It’s hard to attract anyone to the cause when they feel unwelcome in the room.
