Schwartzkopf blames Christopher for Dems losses (except not really)
Poor Chris Flood trying to make sense out of Schwartzkopf post election analysis.
“He said because of the race for county sheriff, the turnout in Sussex County was somewhat different than in Kent and New Castle counties.
Republicans pushed hard to get out the vote because they didn’t want to see Jeff Christopher re-elected, said Schwartzkopf, and as a result some people who wouldn’t have voted otherwise ended up voting straight down party lines.
Schwartzkopf said he doesn’t necessarily think the outcome of the races would have been any different, but the percentages would have been closer.
Republicans had a good day, he said. It’s like a sports competition, he added, and the GOP had a better outcome.”
Yep. Just like a sports competition. The kind of competitions where one team has motivated players, strategies, coaching and leadership and the other doesn’t. It was just like that.

Pete was talking about the Sussex result. Your quote may be accurate elsewhere, but not in Sussex. The Sussex Dems had motivated players, strategies, coaching and leadership (albeit the leadership I gave was a failure). From my assuming the chair in March, 2013, we had multiple training sessions for committee members and then for candidates and prospective candidates. Candidates received training from elected officials and state and national campaign experts on issues, fundraising, voter contact, social media, etc. I believe that we had well-qualified candidates who identified issues and ran on them. Candidates from Sussex for state legislative offices in most all cases raised what they budgeted for and used most of what was raised for direct voter contact. Those candidates benefited from the financial support of state and federal elected officials as well as voters. The county party made the first known major effort to support candiates for county row and council offices-doing a mailing to almost 40,000 voters-on the simple but relevant themes of working together for the benefit of all and of restoring civility to county government.
Over 140 volunteers worked in and out of the Georgetown headquarters.
I did not see any similar effort by the other side. While individual Republican candidates had a good ground game, there was no visible effort by the Sussex Republican Party.
While I certainly understand and accept my responsibility for our loss on Election Day, I take exception to any statement that we were not motivated, lacked strategy and coaching, or were suffering from a lack of leadership. I may also add that most, if not all, Sussex Democratic candidates ran campaigns based on traditional Democratic issues that DL is so quick to chastise the Party for running away from.
Yellow Card- No commenting from vacation.
Maybe Demicrats need to govern and act more like Democrats instead of running Carper -Markell clones. Especially downstate
Not sure much of anything would help us west of Rt. 1. That’s a whole ‘nother state. Think Mississippi in the ’60’s.
Where is the Gruber article and accolades from the left for carrying out the lefts primary theme, “deception above and beyond the normal call of duty”, I would say he should be awarded the liberal medal of honor
Thanks Mitch, we couldn’t have run the table without you. You were our greatest asset in Sussex.
Right El Som, The bogus stereotypes didn’t play well in the election but keep up the good work.
I find these comments about Mitch and his role – as Sussex Democratic Chair- quite strange. Mitch wasn’t on the ballot,- but his work and those D’s volunteers – frankly shouldn’t be given “the back of the hand” – My strong impression – and I don’t live in Sussex- was given the comparable resources- Sussex D’s were better organized, better coached than comparable subdivisions. I’m certain – these comments – do not give Mitch and the Sussex County Democratic leadership – a lot of comfort – but t is an acknowledgement of their hard work and a attempt for clear-eyed fairness.
He worked his ass off and did a fantastic job. Most comments about here are just Mitch haters. If they are Republicans, they hate him for good reason.
