Newton nails it – Karen Weldin Stewart: idiocy or hypocrisy?
Today’s inane op-ed by Delaware Insurance Commissioner Karen Weldin Stewart perfectly exemplifies why even the Libertarian idea of voting for “none of the above” and leaving the office empty would be better than having her in power.
I agree with this fully, you nailed it! The consumers should be number one in this position. Her spot is up in 2016 which is why I am challenging her! People don’t think a 19 year old could do the job, but look at how she is handling it wither her years in the insurance business.
A 19 year old would probably be less corrupt and do a better job. Some guy that age won a seat on Ocean City council
Her mission should have nothing to do with the profitability of insurance companies; that’s their job and their problem. She should be recruiting insurance carriers, especially in the Affordable Care realm to enhance competition and thus, lower premiums for consumers and lower procedure costs from healthcare providers.
When we, new to Delaware last year, called her office for info on ObamaCare, her staff was utterly useless.
We went down this road with an insurance commissioner in the pocket of the insurance companies in Texas and were hopeful that when moving to a “blue” state, we’d see consumer advocacy from her office. Sadly, beyond disappointed…..despairing.
AAuen: Since you’ve said that you are running for IC, why are you running?
What do you know about insurance policy?
I mean, most of us here agree that KWS is incompetent and should go.
But, you need more than the gimmick that you’re young and couldn’t POSSIBLY do a worse job. We’re not looking for the bottom of the barrel here.
So, here’s your chance: What do you stand for? Why should Delawareans vote for you?
@AAuen – All due respect for your enthusiasm but the reason KWS is still in office is because there were too many challengers in 2012. The only way she stands a chance in 2016 is if enough people enter as challengers and fragment the vote once again.
People don’t think a 19 yo could do the job? Just answer me this. Are you still on your parents’ insurance, or CHPS? Because if I were you; given the new federal insurance rules; I’d run with that luck and put my time in some area of government that isn’t so experential dependent, let alone idiosyncratic in regulation. Have no problem with a 19 year old doing a job–but deciding contractually MY and other Delawareans health coverage inclusions, plans, options, etc., is a far cry in responsibility than being on a County Council, Levy Court, or school board. Making a point about somebody’s shortcomings, doesn’t usually require you to repeat their inadequacies the next round. Anectdotal suggestion and analogy works for me. But don’t lose your quest in running for an office, it is appreciated—could you just leave my healthcare and education alone? I hear they are always looking for a good sheriff :), or a mayor……..Thanks!
I agree. I haven’t covered this because it is a strange choice. County Council, Levy Court, or school board would make more sense.
