Your vote counts.
So which Kent County resident didn’t vote? Because you are directly responsible for an election ending in a tie.
Superior Court Judge Robert Young decided after a review of absentee ballots to declare the race between Democrat incumbent Betty Lou McKenna and Republican La Mar Gunn a tie with 19,248 apiece – and his decision awaits Department of Elections certification. […]
Delaware Republicans called the ruling a victory for democracy.
A victory for democracy that the GOP will appeal. LOL. Seriously, the GOP is appealing a decision that they call a victory for democracy, because I suppose they are against democracy. I guess they did not think through the PR aspect of that.
The reason for the appeal?
However GOP Chairman John Fluharty called into question one ballot in particular that went in McKenna’s favor that they consider too unclear – and they intend to challenge the decision.
So you are appealing to disenfranchise a voter so that your guy can win by 1 vote. Yeah, that is anti-democratic. No wonder you are appealing that victory for democracy.
So, notwithstanding Fluharty’s appeal, what happens now?
If [the election results (a tie) are] certified [by the Department of Elections,] the position will be declared vacant – awaiting an appointment from Governor Jack Markell. […] There was no word from the Governor’s office on who would be appointed – although McKenna – who has held the position since 2003 – is a strong possibility.
McKenna is the Democratic incumbent, and there is that old saying that ties go to the incumbent. But I do admit McKenna getting appointed to the position after her reelection campaign produces an official and certified tie does not leave a good taste in my mouth. Perhaps the Governor could appoint someone else. Further, Delaware law in this regard does not seem fair. An election that ends in a tie should not end in a gubernatorial appointment. It should lead to a new special election.
So the GOP hails democracy, but will sue over one ballot. The state will very likely certify the result (a draw). Then the Democrat Gov will appoint the Democrat incumbent.
With all due respect, don’t castigate people for not voting. This is why they don’t vote.
What is the difference which party holds the Kent Co. Recorder of Deeds?
The job description states
“Responsible for indexing and maintaining copies of legal documents pertaining to land, mortgages, appointments, etc.
The Mission of the Recorder of Deeds Office is to Serve the People of Kent County by correctly recording and indexing documents in a timely and efficient manner, by courteously responding to requests for help and information, by collecting and properly accounting for the appropriate fees and taxes, and by providing every employee with motivation, training, and experience so that each one can enjoy progressing toward a higher level as a skilled and productive worker.”
A person affliated with any party or faction should be disqualified from this post anyway. I say flip a coin, or perhaps rock, paper, scissors…
Seems like a good opportunity for the GA to take up legislation that removes row offices from the electoral roll. These so called elected offices are nothing more than a drain on local economies. All of the row offices would run with at least the same efficiency…if not better…without being on the ballot.
So which Kent County resident didn’t vote? Because you are directly responsible for an election ending in a tie.
Of course, the other way to look at it is that maybe one too many people voted…
So, now does anyone care that because of the black box feature of the DRE voting machines, the only recount possible is with absentee paper ballots and maybe provisional votes? The machines permit a reprint, not a recount and we’ll never know if the machine votes were the proper intent of the voter.
I blame Tom Carpers voter suppression operation.
I propose they leave the office empty until the next schedule election. My prediction is nobody would notice any difference.
