The internet is full of bullshit
Case in point – Delaware’s best Diner is not Helen’s Famous Sausage House.
I don’t know what the best diner is, but if it is Helen’s then we don’t have any good diners. This is just lazy reporting from some douche at MSN.com.
DELAWARE: Helen’s Famous Sausage House
Don’t be fooled by Helen’s Famous Sausage House’s modest facade. The Smyrna diner has people lined up out the door for its savory breakfast sandwiches, like the double sausage sandwich served on a warm, buttered hot dog bun.
I wondered when it would be but January 7th 2015, the day we ran out of shit to bitch about.
Never heard of the place.
Delaware isn’t known for its food.
Never heard of the place? The home of the scrapple sub, and you’ve never heard of it? For shame.
Helen’s isn’t a diner. It’s great. But not a diner.
Glass Kitchen is a good diner. As is Hollywood Grill. Smyrna Diner. The Hearth.
Helen’s Sausage House with Elvis on the wall is even famous down here in the swamps of Sussex County
ohhhhhhhhhh, I thought it was Dinner. Helen’s dinner is the best.
That’s funny because you know with my typing disability I went back and forth between Dinner and Diner about 30 times.
Helen’s is not bad, not expensive and if your in a hurry (like me) the service is quick at the counter. On the other hand what the hell do you expect from a diner? As a musician I’ve eaten at dozens of them, there’s better and then there’s much, much worse.
Smyrna Diner? Oh no…..Hollywood Grille on 202 or Middletown Diner on 301.
Helen’s may be a landmark for hunters, earlybirds, and loyal folks (of which my hubs and kids sojourn to whenever together)–but I’d rather sleep in and don’t bother bringing me take-out. Just get me an Egg McMuffin on the way back…..
We like Lucky’s on 202.
I still call that place the Ranch House–how long has it been now????
Long enough for you to know better. 😉
Lucky’s is some hipster nonsense. I want some old fashioned diner goodness.
I’ll add the ChesDel to the mix and an in memoriam to Eagle Diner and what was that other diner on main street in newark that was also not terrible?
And what’s that trailer diner in Dover?
And Kirby and Holloway – can that be classified as a diner?
The hallmark of a diner is that it serves breakfast 24 hours a day, in addition to a large and varied menu. I think you have to go to New Jersey for a real diner. Diners carry a large menu, so if you expect fresh food, find a high-traffic joint that does a lot of volume.
Delaware isn’t know for it’s Diner’s. It’s known for it’s plethora of awesome chain restaurants that people get excited about and wait an hour to eat at.
“A new Applebee’s is opening up at Christiana Honey!!!!”
“Oh man, I love their burger’s!”
Jimmy’s Grill Bridgeville
Problem with Delaware is that simply is not enough of a mob presence such as New Jersey enjoys. As a result no real need for late night diners.
