DEGOP goes full on Malcolm X to support road builders and state workers

Apparently the DEGOP knows something about state workers that the DelDems don’t.  It knows….they vote.  It also knows that the people who build roads vote.  So while the  proposed “by any means necessary” across the board 5% cut in all departments foreshadows job cuts, the state workers remaining standing after the cuts would be economically (although probably not psychologically) better off.  That seems to be plan anyway.

DOVER – Answering the governor’s call for ideas, Delaware State Senate Republicans today submitted a plan that would promote responsible government spending, kick-start funding for transportation projects and provide raises to state employees.

The proposal, outlined in a letter sent this morning to Gov. Jack Markell, features three main components – or “three R’s” as they’re calling it: Roads, raises and responsibility.

The initiative would direct the heads of each state agency to reduce spending in their departments by 5 percent, “through legislation, executive order, or any other means necessary.” The decreased spending would free up $195 million for the state spending plan budget writers are putting together for next year.

“Throughout this legislative session, the governor has urged state lawmakers to come to him with ideas on how to address this year’s significant budget challenges and how to pay for improvements to Delaware’s roads,” said Senate Republican Leader Gary Simpson (R-Milford). “Well, this is our idea, and we look forward to getting to work immediately with the governor to iron out the details. We can’t keep going back to Delaware families and businesses to fix our problems. We’re committed to responsible government spending and we’re confident the governor feels the same way.”
