No more news on Beau Biden’s condition….

Filed in National by on May 20, 2015

….and it is likely that is the way it will be. He will be released after the treatment is completed with no disclosure as to what his treatment was for, and then at the end of the summer he will announce officially his candidacy for Governor. But, despite the best efforts of the Biden camp and those who think his medical condition is none of our business, the News Journal has a poll up this morning, and the votes so far reveal that this is a matter of some debate. The question is framed in such a way that it assumes that if Beau Biden were currently in office as a public official, the public would undoubtedly have a right to know all about his medical condition.

Should Beau Biden’s health be a public issue?

Yes, he has said he is a likely candidate for governor.(Your vote)
43%
No, not until he official announces his candidacy.
41%
Only if he were in office
14%

A small plurality agrees with me at the moment.

I am very chagrined that we are forced to have this debate. If only the Biden office and the Vice President’s office were more forthcoming, all we would be doing right now is focusing on Beau’s getting better with whatever it was that he was going through.

“all we would be doing right now is focusing on Beau’s getting better”

Which you could simply choose to do. But you made a choice to focus on the details of his specific malady and blame Biden’s office (and Biden himself) for not appeasing your interest, thus causing you to focus on something you would rather not. You are indeed the victim here.

  2. AQC says:

You still have the choice of what to focus on.

Biden is currently a private citizen, so I believe his health is his business. But if he launches a campaign for governor, then I think the citizens of this state have a right to know if he will be up to the rigors of the job and, indeed, whether he will be there is four years.

That said, I am rooting for the guy to beat whatever it is that ails him. He has a wife and young children who need him and want him around no matter what his job is.

I think just because of who he is…. VP’s son, “next in line” for the Delaware Dynasty…. people assume he will run and they will “stay out of his way”, lest they mess up their spot in line. It isnt how a Democracy should work, but it’s how things are done in Delaware. He is a presumptive candidate/ nominee/ Gov, until he says otherwise.
I wouldnt be surprised if doners are withholding money that might go to another non-republican. While i think his privacy is important, all we really need is a “im not running”, then no one will bring it up until we can rejoice in his recovery.

  5. Geezer says:

@Dave: Except he is using his private illness as a political weapon against people not on Team Biden. So sorry, no dice. The Bidens are the ones who made it more than personal.

Also, “only if he were in office” applied until January, and he went more than a year without acknowledging that he wasn’t actually working at his elected position.

    @Delaware Dem
“I am very chagrined that we are forced to have this debate.” Apparently, you have the problem and YOU are forcing the debate, because you keep writing about it. I agree with Dave, you are making the choice!

They’ll say something, when they’re good & ready, NOT on your terms!!!

  7. Geezer says:

In which case, fuck them. You, too, anonymous. Oh, wait, let me type it so you understand it: Fuck you!!!

  8. AQC says:

Ignore Geezer. He gets his panties in a bunch whenever you talk about the Bidens. His choice.

  9. Geezer Fan says:

Let’s all be honest here. The Bidens care about ONE thing and one thing only: the Bidens. They don’t care about ANYONE ELSE, not even their fawning minions (of who many are right here making comments).

That any person would, should or could give a shit about a family of 3rd rate political opportunists, who btw wouldn’t bat an eye if you and your whole family were vaporized, is a reflection of either serious lack of self respect or some malignant forn of twisted royalist sycophancy.

You go, Geezer. These people are reptiles. Sick or not.

I wish the field would open up. There are no candidates I like on the R side so it would be good to see what others have to offer.

  11. Geezer says:

@AQC: I notice you never have a cogent response to any of my criticisms, so you can fuck off, too. Pretending to take the high road is a Biden specialty. Either answer the criticisms or admit you can’t.

Specifically, explain the circumstances in which it’s OK for a candidate to hide his health and those in which it’s not. Your position is not a position, it’s a personal carve-out for Biden.

    Nice Geezer, real nice!

  13. AQC says:

    Oh Geezer, LOL.

  14. Geezer says:

See what I mean? You pretending its not an issue does not make it not an issue. You pretend it’s not an issue because you have no answer.

Just answer the question: At what point does it become an issue?

  15. Geezer says:

Just to hammer the point home, you seem to think that because you don’t want to know about this, nobody else is entitled to make the demand. This is why I suggest you fuck off. I’m as entitled to tell you to do that as you are to tell others not to ask questions of public employees about their ability to fulfill their functions.

Geezer: My comment from today at 7:09pm, was your use of the f-word. You have your opinion, I have mine. My initial comment was to Delaware Dem. I respect your opinion, as well as his. I also respect a person’s privacy. If I’m not mistaken, correct me if I’m wrong, but Mr. Biden is employed by a law firm and is not on the public’s payroll.

Thank you & have a nice evening.

  17. LeBay says:

    @ Anonymous-

    You’re wrong.

    Consider yourself corrected.

    Have a nice day.

  18. Geezer says:

@anonymous: Your position is convenient, but I raised this question a year before Beau left office and it was never answered. You don’t get a pass because you leave office without answering the question.

Beau Biden was, from the available evidence, not actually working for a full year before leaving the office. His father commandeered government resources to fly him to a cancer hospital in Houston; as best as can be determined, the public has never been repaid for that. As has been the case for 40 years now, the Bidens act as if they owe the public nothing and that, in fact, the public somehow owes them.

As for the use of “fuck off,” is this your first time on the internet?
