Ted Cruz is America’s Greatest Asshole.

Filed in National by on June 4, 2015

Ted Cruz made a little joke last night. Because, you know those Republicans, they are a fun loving comedic people.

“You know, Vice President Joe Biden,” he said as a few chuckles emerged from the crowd, setting up the joke for him.

“You know the nice thing. You don’t need a punchline. I promise you it works. At the next party you’re at, just walk up to someone and say, ‘Vice President Joe Biden,’ and just close your mouth. They will crack up laughing.”

Former News Journal reporter Chad Livengood confronted the unmitigated pile of excrement that somehow had gained sentience and asked it how it felt to make fun of a grieving father who has now had to bury two children:

Q: Could you talk about the vice president losing his son this week?

A: Heartbreaking and tragic, and our prayers are very much with Vice President Biden, with Jill. It’s a tragedy no one should have to endure.

Q: Why’d you tell a joke about the vice president tonight?

A: Uh …. [walks away]

What a fucking coward. I hope you come to this state and make that joke again.

I hope he burns in Hell and soon.

He is a P.O.S. But when you are running to be the leader of America’s asshole brigade – that’s a virtue.

what kind of a person takes cheap shots at a guy and his family at a time like this

  3. AQC says:

the same kind who feel free to criticize the funeral arrangements

I feel your pain, but the joke is a standing one and had nothing to do with the terrible and tragic death of that great American, Beau Biden or the grief of a loving father. Of course you know that, but maybe you don’t feel that. It would be nice if people thought about context before they open their mouth. That does not make someone a bad person. It does make someone a better person who does.

If you think that it would be nice to suspend normal harmless banter to pay particular respect to a grieving family, I am very sympathetic to that. The family is not just a group of public figures to me. They are real friends that I wish I could help comfort, but due to the crazy circumstances of national security, someone as far down the totem poll as me won’t get that chance for months or years. The difference is that you and I don’t see V. P. Biden right now. We see our friend Joe. I lost my friend Beau. It hurts.

I think when you take a breath and look at the statement, you see it differently. It is an assessment on his performance and fit for the job not an attack on him as a grieving father.

What it may illustrate is that in today’s world, many no longer see the person first. They see a gladiator on the other team. I personally don’t think that is good, but I find it disingenuous to single out Cruz for a very minor transgression.

Of course, it may be the emotion that surrounds the day. If it is, I respect that as well. Everyone needs to grieve in their own way. I think all but the most insensitive of Delawareans feel like we lost a family member. My condolences to you and all my fellow Delawareans.

We should learn to set up a pool for when Republican David will show up here to defend GOP dickishness.

Seriously, it’s like clockwork, that somehow bad behavior and gracelessness by these so-called GOP lights is JUST FINE IF YOU JUST BREATHE.

  7. Jason330 says:

I hope Ted Cruz is Republican David’s candidate.

  8. pandora says:

If Cruz doesn’t have the capability to censor himself during a time like this, then he doesn’t have the capability to censor himself as President when necessary.

This really wasn’t a difficult thing not to do. The fact Cruz couldn’t maneuver through this (couldn’t not tell a joke the day before a funeral?) tells us a lot about how unqualified he is.

  9. Jason330 says:

People who are naturally a-holes can only suppress that a-holeishness for brief periods before ego depletion sets in and self-control heads for the nearest exit. I’d love to see Ted Cruz seriously try to not be an a-hole for an hour. The 45 minute mark would be chock-a-block with comedy.

  10. Geezer says:

An example of Ted Cruz saying something insensitive without bothering to think about the consequences really is dog-bites-man news.

  11. Another Mike says:

When I take a breath and look at the statement, I see an asshole. How hard would it have been to put the Biden jokes aside for a few weeks? I think Livengood’s question was valid, and Cruz showed his character by turning and walking away.

  12. Jason330 says:

Just watched the clip. Notice how Cruz musters up all this fake sincerity, really laying it on thick. Then when asked the follow up he turns it off like a light-switch. What a creepy fraud.

  13. bamboozer says:

The motorcade went past not long ago, solemn yet inspirational to see. Cruz remains a monster in a fine suit, treat him and his supporters as such.

  14. LeBay says:

Grow up, people. Ted Cruz is a moron. Why do you get your collective panties in a knot when he says something stupid?

To borrow a line from The Terminator, “That’s what he does. That’s ALL he does!”
