BREAKING: Gay Marriage Is Legal!

Filed in National by on June 26, 2015

This is wonderful!

Gay and lesbian couples already can marry in 36 states and the District of Columbia. The court’s ruling on Friday means the remaining 14 states, in the South and Midwest, will have to stop enforcing their bans on same-sex marriage.

man! Mrs Ben and I got married 3 weeks ago tomorrow (yay)…. I wish we could have had that first paragraph read at the ceremony. It’s beautiful.

  3. This ruling brings so much joy, joy to those who can now finally marry whomever they love, and, for the first time in a long time, joy that we live in a country that officially and openly embraces civil rights for (almost) all.

It’s now the Law of the Land. What a great day!

  4. Jason330 says:

    “It is so ordered.”

As fucked up as this country is from time to time, as much as some people try to tear it down and make it a reflection of their own pettiness – America still works. And when it works, it is magnificent.

And then there is the embarrassment that is Justice Thomas:

The corollary of that principle is that human dignity
cannot be taken away by the government. Slaves did not
lose their dignity (any more than they lost their humanity)
because the government allowed them to be enslaved.
Those held in internment camps did not lose their dignity
because the government confined them. And those denied
governmental benefits certainly do not lose their dignity
because the government denies them those benefits. The
government cannot bestow dignity, and it cannot take it
    away.

LOL! Go to Google and search on Gay Marriage to see their tribute.

The people have spoken….Oh wait, the people were actually engaged in meaningful and productive conversations and Constitutional processes with their States, concerning this issue ,but the Federal Government has decided to end that conversation because they of course know better than those pesky States with their ridiculous States’ Rights, and people running all over the place.

  8. pandora says:

These would be the states that honor things like the confederate flag? Nice to know you’re a majority rule guy rather than individual rights guy. In your world minority groups would have no rights.

  9. Dorian Gray says:

States’ Rights… where have I heard that before?

  10. puck says:

It has been a bad week for the American Taliban.

  11. fightingbluehen says:

Is that a negative term to you DG,.. States’ rights? You know States’ rights are sort of like an insurance policy for individuals and the way that they perceive their own freedom. It’s designed this way on purpose. It may sound absurd to you ,but voting with your feet may sometimes be the best option in the reality of an imperfect world.

  12. Jason330 says:

“States Rights” and “Religious Liberty” are just pretty ways of saying “I should be able to discriminate against fags and/or brown skinned people.”

  13. cassandra_m says:

Right. Don’t forget that it wasn’t until the late 90’s that a simple majority of white people thought that marriage between black and white people was OK. Why should the bigots get to control who gets married in this country?

  14. Dorian Gray says:

As Jason and Pandora wrote, it’s just the way you use it. Remember, we’re laughing, but we’re not laughing with you…

Same boring, tired, dated arguments get more irrelevant by the day. Try to remain calm. Watching the country wizz past may cause whiplash if you tense up.

  15. pandora says:

What always baffles me is how gay marriage impacts these “straight” people. It’s like the only thing holding them back from marrying a person of the same sex was the law.

If you view gay marriage as a threat towards heterosexual marriage, then your heterosexual marriage is weak and not something to be held up as an example.

  16. I believed that the greatest threat to our heterosexual marriage was the constant stream of hot babes who simply couldn’t resist me.

    Then I woke up.

  18. Tom Kline says:

Ugh.. Still an unnatural sex act between two men.

  19. AQC says:

You okay with the sex acts between two women Tom?

  20. cassandra_m says:

I just want to know when Tom is going to deliver on his threat to leave the state.

  21. Gan says:

Just a technicality and FYI to correct a common misconception… Pandora mentioned the Confederate Flag in this thread…The flag we see so often that is referred to as the Confederate Flag is actually the Battle Flag of the Army of Northern Virginia. A true confederate flag incorporates the Battle Flag. It does not change what it represents though and the name of the flag is semantic at this point. Married to a southerner who pointed out this detail to me recently. Sorry to digress from the thread topic.

  22. Tom Kline says:

Actually, I do enjoy watching two women make love. Does it make me less of a moderate Dem for not wanting to watch two hairy men do the same act? Very unnatural to me but to each his own.

  23. johnny lt says:

Hairy? You obviously haven’t seen enough gay men. (Also, nobody’s forcing you to watch two guys have sex. What are you getting up to?)

Also, remember when “we have to pass a Constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage so that the states can’t pass it” was the Republican argument, not “we have to leave it to the states”?

  24. Ben says:

Trust me tom, gay men probably don’t want to see your un-manscaped thrusting either.
