This is what Secretary Clinton should say….
“If Republicans were really concerned with reducing abortions, they would be for contraception. They’d be for reducing unplanned pregnancies. They be in favor of making abortion more rare, not in making it illegal. If they honestly wanted to reduce abortions, they would want to increase Planned Parenthood’s budget.
They don’t care about things that have been proven to work thought because they really aren’t concerned with stopping abortions. They are concerned with making noise and raising money.”
I agree with that whole statement with the exception of the raising money jab… 1, such a statement would assuredly be followed by a request for donations, and HRC has too many uber-rich doners to attack anyone on that front.
But why don’t they say it, when it’s so easy to say and is in fact middle of the right and resonates with people and could help draw a distinction between the two?
So, when I ask this, I keep coming back to….because they are all on the same freaking side. Why else would you not just say something so simple?
Response to Hillary:
If you really care about women’s health, why do you still support federal funding for Planned Parenthood? PP is one of thousands of centers offering women health services…so why must PP continue to receive taxpayer funding if they break federal laws? If women’s health truly is the issue, don’t you think centers offering these services should obey federal health/ethics laws or risk losing their funding and face criminal charges?
Kermit Gosnell is in prison for life for doing what many others did at PP…so again, if this is really about the health of a woman shouldn’t you Hillary be outraged by what PP has been caught doing and insist they lose all government funding?
Then a quick follow-up question for Hillary. How much money have you received from PP?
…now stepping back from the hornet’s nest.
This is what we all should say:
http://www.nytimes.com/2015/08/05/opinion/how-to-really-defend-planned-parenthood.html
hornet’s nest? JQP didn’t address a single point in the post. How is that anything other than a punt?
JQP also made up a bunch of nonsense
“Kermit Gosnell is in prison for life for doing what many others did at PP”
Flat-out lie — not that Gosnell is in prison, but that PP does what he did.
If we wanted a response from the know-nothings, this would be a conservative blog.
“If Republicans were really concerned with reducing abortions, they would be for contraception.”….and the Republicans would ask her to name one Republican who is against contraception, and she wouldn’t be able to because there are no Republicans who are against contraception.
Don’t get out much, eh?
You really, really don’t know what you’re talking about. Here’s a clue:
http://www.theamericanconservative.com/mccarthy/the-gops-contraception-conundrum/
FBH’s comment about contraception reveals the problems Republicans are having. The “moderates” or, let’s say.. less crazy… Republicans still think that the INSANE Republicans are a mere handful of fringe types.
Bro… They are the party. The cluephone is ringing. Pick it up.
Please tell me which Republican is against contraception.
The awkward attempts by the Democrats to gin up the War on Woman again will require much straw as is exemplified in the premise that Republicans are against contraception.
It’s laughable to think that these attempts are being made for Hillary Clinton, who literally staged a war on woman, in a “war room”.
better yet, instead of them answering your question for you, how about you do it. You might learn something about your own party. Or better yet, you may unlearn something you desperately need to
Gracias.
“Please tell me which Republican is against contraception.”
All the ones who voted to ban health insurance including contraception coverage. Look up the names yourself.
@ Geezer:
Then why don’t you see Planned Parenthood out at schools, community events, etc, promoting contraceptives?
“All the ones who voted to ban health insurance including contraception coverage. Look up the names yourself.”
WHO wanted to BAN health insurance? It was the ACA and the convoluted way that it was brought out, the money that was wasted. THAT was the problem! I want healthcare for everyone, but why do I have to pay more?
Your comment makes no sense, so let’s try to find some common ground. DO you agree that reducing unplanned pregnancies should be of great concern to people who claim to be pro-life? That’s a simple yes or no question.
You do see Planned Parenthood out promoting their services. You need to get out more. Please stop blaming other people for your ignorance. Did you sleep thru the Hobby Lobby case?
All his pretending that Republicans are fine with contraception and reproductive healthcare, just not abortion, is silly.
(Psst, Jason… this isn’t about abortion. These guys just pretend it is.)
The “reasonable” “moderate” GOP candidate Jeb Bush…
“Jeb Bush Attacks Obama Administration Over Contraception Mandate”

Because religion just isn’t religion unless you can tell other people what to do!
On a side note, it’s not the utter cluelessness of people I can’t stand. I can deal with that… even when they don’t know they’re dumb. It’s like dealing with a young child… But you’d think that in an effort not to look like a fucking brainless drooling fool they’d keep their fucking mouths shut.
And remember… The Little Sisters of the Poor were not required to provide the contraceptives. They just needed to submit the waiver and the government would cover it.. But they objected to the waiver!
Like Hitch used to say when criticizing the Pope’s edict against contraception in Africa.
HIV is bad but apparently condoms are worse.
Scott Walker…

Don’t worry you lazy fuckers… I can do this all day.
Thanks, Dorian. Notice how those on the other side have gone radio silent.
“DO you agree that reducing unplanned pregnancies should be of great concern to people who claim to be pro-life? That’s a simple yes or no question.”
Yes
@Jason “DO you agree that reducing unplanned pregnancies should be of great concern to people who claim to be pro-life?” Yes, absolutely. We should provide contraceptives to people to help unplanned pregnancies.
@Pandora: I asked our older children and they said they have never seen Planned Parenthood at any high school or college events. THAT is where the should be. I volunteer at numerous events and have not seen PP.
HRC doesn’t need to say anything. She just needs to have a staffer push “record” and catch all the sound bites that she can bludgeon whoever wins the R primary with.
This issue is so perfectly placed for her I can half imagine some sick genius Democratic strategist who came up with it.
Good point. These guys are trying to win the GOP primary. Shit is gonna get crazy.
My first post was meant to be a response to Hillary’s false narrative that Republican efforts to defund Planned Parenthood is a “war on women” and her claim that without PP thousands of low-income women would be left without needed health-care. There are 9,000 other medical centers around the country that could easily replace PP’s services.
http://dailysignal.com/2015/08/03/the-truth-about-defunding-planned-parenthood-and-womens-access-to-health-care/
There are five undercover videos released by Center for Medical Progress documenting the sales of late-term aborted babies for profit by PP.
Have any here bothered to watch any of the videos or are you content to believe PP is telling the truth?
http://www.centerformedicalprogress.org
Planned Parenthood has been caught on video breaking multiple laws and lying to women who had their pregnancies terminated by PP’s doctors (abortion procedures were apparently changed in order to harvest intact fetuses/babies to sell).
Partial-birth abortions are now a felony and punishable by up to 2 years in prison and a fine upwards of $250,000. So, why not stop tax-payer funding going to PP and move the funding to the 9,000 other health centers IF women’s health is really the issue?
I’m not even sure where to begin.
Anonymous, I guess if you and your kids have never seen PP at any events then that’s the final word. You never saw them so they don’t exist. Did you even click on my link? And then click on the options on the left side? (Most high schools have Wellness Centers, which offer contraception, but in order to access the centers’ services parents must sign permission forms. Kids whose parents refuse to sign – and many refuse – end up at PP or pregnant.)
JQP, could you direct me to the point in the videos where the sale of fetal tissue occurs? I’ve watched the videos and I hear talk of donating fetal tissue (perfectly legal) and reimbursement for transportation (perfectly legal).
However, if you’re hearing something else… why wouldn’t you be calling for an end to research using fetal tissue? You do know that it isn’t only PP donating tissue, right? Seriously, if this is your outrage you have a ton of work ahead of you. Out of curiosity, what is your plan for fetal tissue after a legal medical procedure? The trash can? Because that’s what you’re left with.
But none of this “debate” is about abortion. In fact, let’s talk about who pays for abortions at PP. We’ll use PP’s own words. (emphasis mine)
Makes sense since the Hyde Amendment (passed in 1976) prevents federal money from funding abortion, but don’t let facts get in your way.
So if you want to defund Planned Parenthood you are actually calling for defunding/denying access to contraception (and that’s really what all of this is about), cancer screenings, wellness exams, STD testing, etc.
True. It isn’t about abortion. The possibility of sex without consequences – the idea of sex for pleasure – is the real horror in the minds of these fucking nuts.
