What I love about this list of leaders who will be part of Bryan Townsend’s campaign is that many, if not most, are people who are vital to our state, yet have generally not been among the party insiders who have consciously discouraged progressive influence within the Democratic Party.

As a proud graduate of the University of Delaware, I am shocked and outraged by the hateful display of racism and bigotry reported on UD campus earlier tonight. This is a disgusting act of cowards –but a hate crime committed in the shadows is no match for the bright lights of love, tolerance, and acceptance that can shine at UD and beyond. I stand with those students who stand for all students.

He makes a valid point though. Townsend made a very strongly worded comment before he had any idea what was happening. Now he looks ridiculous.
Perhaps if he’d just follow that up with something like… “hey, sorry, I was quick to the draw and didn’t have all the facts. I am, as most of us are these days, very sensitive to current events and escalated racial tension. I wrote when I should have waited. My apologies on this one.”
But I guess we’ll just call Anonymous a moron and pull a Trump. Never take anything back.
…and to Anonymous’ credit, he didn’t use this as an opportunity to say that this U of D event means that there is no such thing as hate crime.
Even though this story has been evolving throughout the day — calling (fairly credibly IMO) into question the original narrative.
So we’ll still call Anonymous a moran and let the story get to an answer before calling for anything to be taken back.
Oh, on balance Anonymous is a fucking clown. We agree on that point. No matter how this turns out Townsend’s comments were premature. I understand where he’s coming from. I’m sympathetic. Like I said most of us are very sensitive to this stuff and we should be. Tell you what… I’ll wait till tomorrow to comment on it again. Let’s see what UD Police say and when or if Townsend responses (if necessary)
Wait, wait… I was nearly bamboozled. The update that’s linked says that the University and UD Police have completed the investigation. They have a fucking photo of those balloon lantern things hanging from the same spot yesterday.
A few conspiracy theorists are calling it a “cover-up” because the university doesn’t want “an uproar on campus.”
Come on, Cass! Don’t make yourself look ridiculous.
Anonymous doesn’t have a valid point. I didn’t see Townsend’s statement earlier. It appears it was posted last night, likely immediately after officials from the university reported “what are believed to be three nooses hanging from a tree…” Townsend was only reacting to official communication. The message from UD’s acting president added, “Such cowardly and reprehensible acts are clearly designed to intimidate and frighten, and they are unacceptable on our campus.” Townsend didn’t “jump in” too soon. In fact, I appreciate his immediate response. It wasn’t until early this morning that police announced it wasn’t a racist display. But, the reaction of officials, students and the community is still justified and should be discussed.
Well, since they were all proven wrong, yeah, I’d say it was too soon.
By the way, who appreciates the quickest wrong answer?
I’m at a complete loss as to how to even have a discussion with you people sometimes… Rather than coming up with some wild spin about why or how the wrong answer was really the right answer, just fucking clarify, explain it, and move on.

It’s just really disappointing that we hammer the other side because they just say things that “feel true” regardless of what the facts show.
We determine the thing is just a homemade clock… I mean… just a string to hang balloon lanterns, but we double down on the fucking outrage anyway because it “feels like” it’s credible.
I was lead to believe that isn’t how we rolled.
I’m sure DG will find something to dislike about this Townsend statement:
“I am grateful to Acting UD President Nancy Targett for her leadership over a very difficult last 12 hours. As she states in her message to the University community, there is shared relief that it appears a hate crime did not occur on campus last night and the University police deserve great credit for working overnight to investigate the incident. That said, there remains a need for dialogue on the issues of race and diversity on campus and I look forward to coming together with students, alumni and school leadership at this afternoon’s meet-up to take part in that conversation.”

I guess this provides Cass the opportunity to drop her defense of the conspiracy theory as credible now as well. So that’s good.

Townsend had a knee jerk response because he was pandering. Who cares. That’s what politicians do.
If there is anything to be upset about here, it is that someone left litter in the trees and didn’t clean up properly after their event. You’d hope UD students would have more respect for their school and practice Leaving no Trace.
Im glad the school is sensitive to hate-crime related events. If something happens for real, and lets hope it doesnt, we know the response will be swift and decisive.
So now it’s a litter outrage. And being the fastest to be wrong is good, because if it happens for real you’ll be on it. I have to say, this is why your arguments get labelled as unserious. As somebody who has marched in the streets for racial equality I’m embarrassed.

Bryan Townsend has now announced his campaign team, headed by Erik Raser-Schramm and Brian Boyle:

It has already started, Pandora. We are already discussing racial divide. The U of D had a very calm get together last night. It was students of all races coming together, arm in arm.
What I feel is a detriment moving forward, is knee jerk reactions with no further comment. That does not help the situation.
I know this might sound as a cliche, but it starts at home. Where we talk about the issues, during dinner, with our families. It starts in the schools and not just grade schools, all schools.
We have a long way to go.
How come the Townsend release doesn’t mention who Boyle worked for in 2010?
Are you suggesting that some people in this cadre of party apparatchiks and pencil pushers have pulled the old memory-hole routine with some of the details on the CV?
C’mon, mediawatch. Dish the dirt! II did notice that Mr Boyle has left out any experience prior to the Crane campaign on his LinkedIn profile. My interest is piqued…
If you were a key operative in a successful campaign, wouldn’t you be more likely to mention that than working for a candidate who lost?
