The father should be charged and tried as an adult
We need to stop calling these incidents accidents.
Early Saturday evening, an 11 year-old boy from Jefferson County, Tennessee, took his father’s unlocked shotgun and shot and killed, with premeditation, his 8 year-old neighbor, McKayla Dyer, from inside his house – because she wouldn’t show him her puppy.
According to the local news station WKRN-TV (video below), the boy had a history of bullying the little girl. Her mother, Latasha Dyer said: “He was making fun of her, calling her names — just being mean to her…I had to go the principal about him, and he quit for a while, and then all of a sudden yesterday he shot her.” The boy, whose name is being withheld by authorities, has been charged with first degree murder, but a judge is to decide in the coming days whether or not to transfer the case to adult court.
Yep, these events aren’t accidents since everyone can see them coming. Charge the parents in every situation like this. You wanna claim to be a responsible gun owner, then you’re responsible. See how that works?
But…. but… maybe the little brat had it coming to her… (sorry… my brain was in NRA mode for a moment there).
This event also shows why we need gun liability insurance.
There should be a victims fund to pay for this sort of thing.
Gun owners need to be held liable (collectively) for all the damage that they have done, and will do.
LE, I’ve always thought that if insurance companies got involved……The cost of the required liability insurance for a gun owner might preclude some people from owning a gun.
God forbid. You can’t hold a gun owner accountable thats like denying them their second Amendment rights. It says shall not be infringed. We would have earth quakes tidal waves pestilence if this were to happen oh my.
I can hear the gun nuts now
Thought this was an interesting article.
