YankGate, Episode III: Elsmere seeks AG Investigation
Last night during the special meeting of the Town Council, “Elsmere town officials are asking the Attorney General’s Office for help in deciding whether a crime was committed by the mayor,” WDEL reports.
What I find fascinating is that what started out as a plan to explain away the firing of former New Castle County Chief Administrative Officer David Grimaldi has blown back and caused collateral damage on Tom Gordon and his allies, all because Grimaldi recorded his conversation with Berg. Gordon has to wonder what other conversations have been recorded.
Why “Yank” ? I feel like I missed something.
That was the word the Mayor used in an offer to rescind the citation. As in what an onanistic fellow might do with his member.
Frankly, I think that if there are more recordings or more indicationsof where the bodies are buried, Grimaldi needs to get in the business of getting that info out there. Bcause Gordon knows what Grimaldi has too, and the longer Grimaldi waits, the longer he gives Gordon to get his cover up on.
I am going to copyright the term YankGate because I invented it. LOL. And Cassandra makes a great point.
More like WankerGate.
Has anyone reported why, exactly, Grimaldi was pulled over in the first place? I know they ran his plates, but they had to have a reason to pull him over before they did it. Or are we supposed to believe these local cops sit around running every license plate for no reason, and they just randomly ended up with a hit when they ran Grimaldi’s plates? Remember, they would need to be randomly running license plates IN THE DARK, which requires a good bit of work and night vision goggles.
License plates have a light over them so they are visible in the dark. You can actually be pulled over if your plate-light is out (like a tail or break light)…. and yes, cops DO randomly run plates. Just like they randomly stop cars to see if anyone inside has open warrants.
Ben: They don’t need probable cause to run a license plate? I am asking a question because I do not know the answer. Do Delaware’s cops routinely run license plates of passing cars for literally no reason? If yes, is that legal? This isn’t an identical comparison, but cops are prohibited from checking names in DEJIS for no reason. Can someone explain why they can run checks of plates — and the criminal record of a car’s owner — with zero probable cause?
They absolutely can. Your license plate is displayed in plain sight (or at least it is required to be…. for this reason) and is basically a code that contains publicly available information (at the DMV) about the owner of the car.
Think about a radar gun…. they dont need to know you are speeding to clock your speed. Did you know there are plate-reading trucks that drive around looking at parked cars with automatic plate-reading cameras to make sure there are no outstanding tickets? There are. The police need no reason at all to run your plates…. or to stop and frisk you. Some time ago, i got all bent out of shape because Wilmo cops blocked off a street and were checking the licenses of every person in every car (passengers included) to make sure no one had warrants. Insanely enough, that is legal too.
i dont know WHY they are allowed to do it… I suppose it makes their job easier …. but rest assured…. well, not assured… probably “anxious” is a better term… Big brother IS watching and checking your plates.
LOL. Ask the AG to investigate something. That’s a good one.
There are cameras that are scanning the plates of every car that goes in and out of OCMD. It is done under the guise of “crime prevention.”
I’m glad Democrats do nothing wrong, let’s elect more. )
The blow back is fascinating. Gordon said that Grimaldi called the Mayor to influence the ticket. Grimaldi said it was to pick him up. On the audio recording, Grimaldi did say he was calling for a ride, which confirms his story and disproves gordon!!! The mayors corruption drowns out this important detail.
The mayor’s “corruption” stems from being put in an impossible position, which is the inevitable result of working either for or with any Gordon administration.
