The Cowardice of the Republican Party

Filed in National by on November 17, 2015

The last time I saw this much bedwetting I was three years old. A number of Republicans in our state legislature, as well as Republicans in our state, are quite distressed at the potential prospect of our state accepting placement of thoroughly vetted Syrian refugees.

State GOP officials and one gubernatorial candidate, Delaware state Sen. Colin Bonini, R-Dover, said Markell should follow [the example of certain Republican Governors across the country who also happen to be cowards].

Charlie Copeland, Delaware GOP chairman, said in a letter to Markell that the United States has to protect its borders, and that includes not allowing Syrian refugees into the state or country. Copeland also asked Markell to, “demand that the Obama administration halt all efforts to allow these individuals to cross American borders.” […]

Bonini, who is running for governor in 2016, said that the state needs to, “hold off until we have a much greater comfort level with the security background checks.”

This, despite the fact that French and Belgium citizens were the ones responsible for the Paris Attacks, not Syrian refugees. So in addition to being betwetting cowards, Mr. Copeland, Mr. Bonini, and any Republican who agrees with them are also mindbogglingly racist.

I hereby invite Mr. Copeland, Mr. Bonini, and any other coward currently serving in the legislature or identifying as a Republican to accept delivery of case of Depends for Men.

Depends

Interesting to note how easy it is to manipulate Americans, just a simple cry of “the Syrians are coming, the Syrians are coming!” and panic sets in. Also like usual the Republicans are quick to stoke the fires of mindless fear and try to turn it to their advantage. And just who’s afraid of Syrian refugees? The same people who burnt witches, lynched blacks and beat gays to death, the same people who no doubt would sign on for another round of endless war in the middle east. Pathetic and yet typical, a good indication that for some nothing has really changed.

The irony is that Charlie Copeland knows what he is saying is bullshit. He knows what he is asking for is nonsense. He views this kind of statement as a couple of crumbs thrown to a bunch of Georgetown nit wits.

And yet, it is the care and feeding these nit wits that has created the DEGOP we know today. Charlie simply can stop feeding the trolls.

The Terrorists keep winning everytime some one changes their routines and spews this crap because of perceived fear. This crap continues yet our response is alwsys the same. The definition of insanity.

  6. Jason330 says:

If you really want terrorists to win, be terrorized. Think very short term. Act out of fear. Forget your core values. Pretty much, be George W. Bush.

  7. Delaware Dem says:

Actually, Jason. George W. Bush was less bigoted, and less stupid, than the current crop of Republicans. George W. Bush at least said that we are not at war with all Islam, all Muslims, that we are only at war with the terrorists.

But according to the current crop of cowards and traitors that comprise the Republican Party, all Muslims, but especially those who are starving and dispossessed refugees, are to be feared and opposed.

Words cannot describe the massive tonnage of disrespect and loathing I have for everyone and everything Republican right now.

  8. mouse says:

Lower class people in every sense of the words. Selfish vile angry reactionary racist rubes, the kind who have always pulled down humanity to satisify their primitive tribal urges.

  9. pandora says:

Hey, the GOP knows their base… and their intellectual limitations.

  10. Liberal Elite says:

    It’s racism pure and unadulterated.

If there was any real fear, then you’d see them busy making assault rifles harder to get here in the US. But the basic truth is that these are easy to get, and so we will surely see more massacres in the US.

Does it really matter what the guy pulling the trigger is thinking or what his religion is or his political views, or whether he is crazy or not?????

I just can’t buy the “good massacre” vs. “bad massacre” thinking.

…and it’s exactly that sort of thinking that tells me that it really is pure and unadulterated racism.

White person shooter = Lone wolf/mental illness
Black person shooter = culture of violence
Muslim person shooter = Islam is evil

  12. Liberal Elite says:

@J “White person shooter = Lone wolf/mental illness”
Solution: Just say “That’s too bad, but there’s nothing we can do… 2nd amendment and all.”
or just say “The victims should have brought their guns.”
or just say “The victims should have rushed the shooter.”

“Black person shooter = culture of violence”
Solution: Shoot black person with gun, on sight. No questions needed, even if it’s a toy gun, or something just pulled off the shelf at Walmart.

“Muslim person shooter = Islam is evil”
Solution: Ban all muslims from modern society. Deportation…

  13. Jason330 says:

    Yep. Life in Potterville.

  14. Rusty Dils says:

Every liberal argument of any length is always 100 percent based on at least one false premise. In this case there are two false premises either used or inferred. First you use the phrase “thoroughly vetted”. It is impossible to thoroughly vet refugees. Ask the Paris authorities. 2nd, it won’t just be republicans who want to put the kabash on allowing syrian refugees in, there will at least be some democrats who oppose the program, because they know if they don’t, they will lose their job next election

  15. Liberal Elite says:

RD… Pedaling racism and xenophobia… and apparently proud of it.

And no false premise. You just thoroughly fail to understand the meaning of the word “thoroughly”.

Hey Rusty… I am far more likely to be killed by a white American Republican idiot with a gun than I am by any terrorist.

So.. sorry… You can’t make me scared by saying “Boo! There’s a muslim.”

  16. Dunleve says:

How many of the 21,000,000 do we take?

How quickly we forget that it is the current (D) font runner that has been responsibe for this catastrophe. Why are we arming rebels to overthrow Assad? Why has ISIL been ignored until only lately. This administration has handled thie issue horribly, and refuses to correct its mistakes.

How much money does Damascus owe Russia, did we think they would sit on the sidelines. This administration is responsible for the disaster.

And where did the weapons that cause the crossing of the “RED LINE” originate?

Take your refugees if it helps to offset the pain you feel from the inept handling of the Syrian cisis from the beginning. The won’t blow up your children, only rob them of benefits this Country cannot afford

  17. Liberal Elite says:

@D “How quickly we forget that it is the current (D) font runner that has been responsibe for this catastrophe.”

Really?? A reasonable analysis would point at Dick Cheney and GWB. Where is Saddam when we need him? And why is he gone? The disaster in theirs to own.

“Why are we arming rebels to overthrow Assad?”
Because Assad is attacking his own people creating many refugees.

“Why has ISIL been ignored until only lately.”
Obama has dropped something like 2,500 bombs on ISIL. How is that “ignoring”??? You should be thankful at the way Obama has been “ignoring” them.

“This administration has handled thie issue horribly, and refuses to correct its mistakes.”
Huh? What handling has been horrible? and what mistakes? Tell us.

“How much money does Damascus owe Russia”
They have many contracts. But the term “owe” is probably not apropos.

“did we think they would sit on the sidelines.”
No. Why would we think that?

“This administration is responsible for the disaster.”
    No. That’s a ridiculous assertion.

“And where did the weapons that cause the crossing of the “RED LINE” originate?”
George Bush provided them… well, lots of them, anyway.

“Take your refugees if it helps to offset the pain you feel from the inept handling of the Syrian cisis from the beginning.”
That’s not the reason to accommodate refugees. And sorry… no pain here.

“The won’t blow up your children, only rob them of benefits this Country cannot afford”
Sorry. The history of refugees is that they are a net positive on the economy.
Look at the Jews we took during WWII? Have they been a drain on our society??? How about those Cubans? Were they a drain?
The fact is that the average Syrian refugee is better educated than the average GOP voter.

  18. ben says:

    LE, it’s no use.
These people are either too stupid to ever realize they are pawns of ISIS … or realize ISIS WANTS to create a global war VS Islam, and is happy to accommodate. They are lost as countrymen and all we can do is hope and work to make sure they stay a minority voice.
