I am still a Bryan Townsend partisan, but Sean Barney just got my attention through the announcement of his campaign team.
Dear Jason,
Our campaign to bring progressive change to Congress continues to grow.
Today, I am proud to announce the coming together of an exceptionally talented, service-oriented, and progressive campaign team. The people on this team have helped principled leaders render dedicated service to the people of our state. They have helped elect post-9/11 veterans to Congress from coast to coast. They are synonymous with some of the most important progressive campaigns in our country’s recent history.
Ian McConnel was the chief deputy to our late Attorney General, Iraq War veteran Beau Biden. Ian has served the nation as a Marine Corps infantry officer and Special Assistant United States Attorney. He has served the State of Delaware as State Solicitor and head of the Consumer Protection and Fraud Division of the Department of Justice.
Joe Trippi cut his teeth working for “The Dream Will Never Die” presidential campaign of the late, great Senator Ted Kennedy. The New Republic has called him the man who “reinvented campaigning” for pioneering in 2004 many of the digital, new media campaign strategies that Barack Obama went on to use to make history in 2008.
Danny Franklin and Pete Giangreco helped Barack Obama ascend from the Land of Lincoln to the White House. In addition to his work for the President, Danny has helped Cory Booker emerge from his service as a reform mayor of a city confronted with many of the same challenges as Wilmington to his current position as a criminal justice reform leader in the United State Senate. Pete has helped Iraq War veteran Tammy Duckworth get elected to Congress, where she has been a forceful advocate for veterans and for refugees from the conflicts post-9/11 veterans know first-hand.
Haley Scott worked for a friend of mine from the Center for Public Leadership at Harvard, a fellow Iraq War veteran, Seth Moulton. She helped Seth win his congressional campaign against a nine-term incumbent and become part of a small but growing core of young, service-oriented leaders in Washington pushing Congress to grow a spine and get back to work. She has served Seth as his finance director. I am honored that she has joined this campaign as our finance director.
Marissa Bauman is a brilliant, innovative entrepreneur in Smyrna, Delaware. She is a small business owner, graphic designer, and web developer. We are fortunate, and have just a bit more flair, for the fact that she has joined us as our creative director on this campaign.
I learned in the Marine Corps that accomplishing the mission starts with building a team that shares core values and is dedicated to one another and a common goal larger than themselves. I say to you proudly today and without a shadow of a doubt that a team has come together in support of this effort that is a team like no other.
I thank you for the support you have given us in getting to this point. We have a long journey ahead of us, but we could not ask for a better start.
Yours,
Sean
I need to know Sean’s fundraising numbers. That is a lot of high priced talent. On the flip side, I hear that Bryon Short has brought in a new national fundraising team to step up his fundraising. But I am intrigued here. He is clearly pursuing a more progressive campaign. Now, if Sean has improved as a candidate himself, then he might be cooking with gas.
