UPDATED: NCCo President Chris Bullock Not Running for a Second Term?
That’s what my sources tell me this evening. I talked to a couple of typically excellent sources this evening who tell me that NCCo President Chris Bullock will not run for a second term. A variety of reasons were offered, not the least of which is that his church is experiencing some turmoil and he wants to address that full time. According to these same sources, NCCo Rep Penrose Hollins would run for NCCo President. If so, I’d say it’s about damned time. Announcements from both men are expected as early as tomorrow.
It sounds as if this has been in the works since just before Christmas. And if this plays out, then we’d be looking at a Special Election for the 4th District seat should Hollins win for NCCo President. So the field would then be:
NCCo Exec:
Tom Gordon and Stephanie Hansen
NCCo President:
Karen Hartley-Nagle and Penrose Hollins

EDIT: This is a copy of the Press Release announcing that he won’t run:
Rumor around the County is that as an elder in Bullock’s church, Penrose Hollins has spearheaded an investigation and an audit of Bullock’s handling of Church finances. He has on more than one occasion suggested that Bullock has his hand in the till. It would appear clear that at least part of his motivation was to use the church to keep Bullock from running for re electionfor an office that Hollins coveted for himself. Lord, save me from the church people.
Godfather, I’m confused. Let’s for argument’s sake, accept what you said at face value. First, I’ve never heard Hollins publicly say that Bullock had his hand in the till. Let’s, however, assume that Hollins suspected that such was the case. Are you saying that, as an elder of the church, he SHOULDN’T have attempted to investigate the possible misuse of church funds? The audit, if indeed one was conducted, should clarify everything, shouldn’t it? And are you saying that Bullock’s hands are clean and he’s not running because…because why, exactly?
As to ascribing Hollins motivation to political ambition, on that one I’d have to disagree. I’ve known Hollins since 1982. If anything, I’ve been more bothered by his LACK of political ambition more than anything else.
Please clarify.
El Som I know as the ultimate political insider it’s hard for you to accept that something could happen in politics without your knowledge,, but if you check your county and council sources , you’ll encounter the same rumors that I did. Absolutely as an elder in the church he had not only a right but a responsibility to investigate any possible financial impropriety. If an audit was done and it clears Bullock of any wrongdoing, I would think that Hollins would be about repairing the damage that he’s done to Bullock’s reputation instead of snatching the opportunity to run for his office. I;m always more than a little skeptical when conscience and convenience converge. As far as Hollins not being politically ambitious, just recall 7 years ago when he ran for President of County Council and lost to political powerhouse Paul Clark of all people.
Error in my earlier posting. Hollins lost the President of council’s race to Clark 11 years ago not 7, Time flies when you’re having fun. In that race Hollins as in incumbent councilman couldn’t win a three way race against two white opponents. Diane Kempski was the third candidate
Updated this post to include Bullock’s press release saying that he is not running.
That’s an awful rumor. Though, I must admit, an early retirement to spend “more time with my family” is rarely the entire story.
The voice of reason. That’s almost funny. He’s no less corrupt than any other NCC Council hack.
Those of you who care about these things might want to dig into the particulars of how the Hockessin Athletic Club got built. Hint: People got paid. Lots of people on both ends of the deal.
Did any of you notice the date on the letter? JUNE 21, 2016
With this kind of attention to detail I am glad he isn’t running again, let’s hope he pays more attention to the finances at that church.
