Mayor Williams’ FB Meltdown

Filed in Delaware by on March 25, 2016

So this is what is happening on Williams’ FB pages today:
Williams AX

Then 20 or so minutes later, we have this:
Williams AX part 2

A meltdown, right? Because WTF else could be going on here? For someone who needs plenty of votes this September, alienating some of them on racial lines seems just plain delusional. And this is not all. If you are on his page regularly, there are posts saying Good Night Wilmington (think Good Night JohnBoy) and for those who are asking serious questions or who criticize him in any way — you are unfriended and blocked. Like he was still in junior high school or something.

Anybody got any ideas?

  1. Brian says:

I have 3 ideas: Punctuation, spelling, and grammar.

Maybe he was hacked. Right? Right?!

    Or maybe he’s ill?

  2. Bane says:

All this tells me is that his staff are so bad that even their edited version of the post still has grammatical errors…. There?

  3. gigi says:

That was painful to read. Great god, I can’t figure out how this man has stayed in public office so long.

  4. Bane says:

    Maybe its like …. I won’t be there BOY…

    As if to say:

I won’t show up at the debate, BOY.

  5. Franny Black says:

HomeBOY is losing it. Have his armed guards check in on him maybe.

  6. Thank you for bringing this to light. It is utterly sad to read the Facebook posts knowing this is our city’s Mayor.

  7. pandora says:

I’m with Brian. Please tell me he was hacked. I cringed as I read through several posts and comment sections.

Please tell me he was hacked!

  8. I feel bad for him as a person. However his inability to control his emotions/temper has been longstanding. And, yes, I witnessed it first-hand. If anything, this flaw has been downplayed. He was never suited to be mayor.

  9. Lord knows what is going on with Facebook today. I got banned from posting to groups or joining groups and had all my opt out district pages decimated today, all because I put up an article about a possible “Parent Bill of Rights for Education” post on it.

  10. mediawatch says:

If his account has been hacked, he should have gotten the word out by now.
The fact that he hasn’t done so would be demonstration of absolute incompetence — on his part, and on the part of his staff … or …

If his account has not been hacked, on Sept. 13, it will officially be “Good night, Mr. Mayor.”

  11. cassandra_m says:

It hasn’t been hacked. His accounts have always been very eccentric and the behavior of unfriending and blocking people who don’t agree with him has been around from the beginning. You can see, though, why the business community doesn’t want a thing to do with him any more.

  12. Sas says:

My guess is he posts on his FB page whenever he pleases and his staff doesn’t see it until everyone else sees it. I’m guessing they’ve tried to wheel him in, but I thinks it’s hopeless. His spokesperson, Alexandra Coppage is an educated, well written individual, my guess is she has NO control over what he posts on his private pages ::((. I’m sure she and many others just cringe when he posts his private posts!!!!

  13. Lash Larue says:

No wonder him and the fire chief are BFFs. He undoubtedly has surrounded himself with idiots.

  14. gobiden says:

I am about 95% sure I saw him sitting in the drivers seat of a big black SUV in front of the Fairfax Liquors on Concord eating Five Guys by himself the other night.

(I am not kidding. It looked just like the SUVs parked in the mayor’s spot downtown, and whoever was sitting there looked a lot like Dennis P. Williams.)

  15. mediawatch says:

He has fallen to a level that is far below pathetic. I’m sensing that he may pull a Flowers and take himself out of the race by the end of April.
I was talking with one of the other candidates earlier this week. He says Williams has no reason to fear that any of them would take pot shots at him during a debate. No point in wasting time on criticisms, he says, not when the public wants to hear ideas for positive change.

  16. FUG says:

It’s him and Ed Osborne against the world. Where is his past ardent supporter, Will Minster?

  17. mediawatch says:

It’s really the mayor against the world.

Coppadge, by saying nothing to the NJ, pretty much threw her boss under the bus. And Osborne’s first comment in the story made clear he had no clue what Williams was up to. His follow-up statement was a CYA maneuver, pure and simple.

Will Minster abandoned DPW long ago. He knows he made a big mistake in 2012.

  18. LeBay says:

    @FUG-

<It’s him and Ed Osborne against the world. Where is his past ardent supporter, Will Minster?

I’m not sure what Ed Osborne has to do with this. I don’t know the guy,

I used to know Will Minster. He supported DPW. I notice that Will is never quoted in TNJ articles these days…just Marty. Perhaps Will got a taste of the *real* DPW.

I haven’t seen Will in a few years, but I can attest that he’s a good man who wants the best for Wilmington. He closed his Wilmington business and went to work for Downtown Visions. He really could have gone anywhere, but he chose to stick it out in Wilmington. I think that says something (good) about Will Minster. Also, Will and his wife live in the Newark area, yet he’s still concerned about Wilmington.

  19. cassandra_m says:

The NJ covered this meltdown yesterday, seeking comments from the other Mayoral candidates on whatever is going on here. Good on ’em for sticking to their knitting and letting the Mayor hang out there by his anger management issues. Good observation by Kevin Kelley, though:

Kelley said instead of making public appearances, knocking on doors or attending candidate debates, Williams is using Facebook to campaign.

“To me it sounds like somebody who is getting a little paranoid by the election,” Kelley said. “To be honest, the heat in the kitchen hasn’t even got that hot.”

  20. cassandra_m says:

    Then there’s the FB response:
    Williams AX part 2

  21. cassandra_m says:

Which makes you wonder what, exactly, is going on down at French Street?
