I join other Delawareans in being disturbed by what I heard on the tapes and I am frustrated that my husband and I have been pulled into their long-standing feud. What adds to my anger is that the accusations made against us are completely untrue, and it’s a nameless, politically-motivated source who is manipulating the media coverage to tell a story that just doesn’t exist.
Dana is a Housing Inspector who works as a contractor for the New Castle County Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program. This is essential work that benefits some of the most vulnerable populations in our state. In August of 2015, one section 8 housing client commented that my husband discussed my 2014 campaign with her nearly a year earlier. A formal complaint was never issued and through an HR review, Dana was cleared of any wrongdoing. As he stated unequivocally yesterday, he did not use or furnish any section 8 lists for campaign purposes.
I never had a single conversation with anyone in County government about my husband or my husband’s employment status. In fact, I wasn’t even aware of this issue until this week. I have never agreed to take a position on policy based on my husband’s standing with the county. I make decisions based on what is best for my district and the State of Delaware.
It’s unfortunate that a settled, unfounded personnel issue involving Dana has become public because of the tapes provided to the media. But again, I could not, would not and most importantly did not discuss a political deal over a private personnel issue I wasn’t even aware of. Any implication that I would is contrary to the truth and goes against everything I stand for.
At the end of the day, this is the latest chapter in an ongoing personal feud between the County and a former employee – a feud that’s the subject of a pending lawsuit that I have no intention of commenting on.
My focus from here is on moving our state forward, and working every day to fight for a stronger, healthier Delaware for all of us.
