Props to Butler and Eisley for putting their butts on the line for a vision of American politics less corrupted by big money. AND for getting NJ coverage of the protest. No small feat for a group not aligned with the Delaware Chamber of Commerce.
It was a mass arrest in slow motion, Wilmington resident Judy Butler said of the detention of more than 400 protesters in Washington, D.C., Monday afternoon.
Butler is the lead coordinator for “Delaware Get $ Out,” a citizens action group targeting the influence of special interests in politics. She sat on the steps of the U.S. Capitol on Monday with hundreds more, including at least 10 locals, to support the Democracy Spring movement, an allied group that marched from Philadelphia this week to put on displays of civil disobedience.
“It was great to see them again yesterday,” Butler said of the group that came through Wilmington last Sunday. “We simply wanted to bring the message to the Capitol that this is our democracy. A lot of us haven’t felt like it is for a long time.”

Butler was detained with June Eisley, a member of “Delaware Get $ Out” who said she’s no novice when it comes to risking arrest over passion issues.
June and I go way back to the early Howard Dean meetups. For as long as I’ve been paying attention to politics, June has been an absolutely indefatigable advocate for peace and social justice.
