Donald Trump: The Misogynist Pig

We all know that Trump is a pig, and The New York Times recently endeavored to chronicle his misogyny.  At best a shower will be needed after reading this; at worst, bleaching your eyes.

Donald Trump and women: The words evoke a familiar cascade of casual insults, hurled from the safe distance of a Twitter account, a radio show or a campaign podium. This is the public treatment of some women by Mr. Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee for president: degrading, impersonal, performed. “That must be a pretty picture, you dropping to your knees,” he told a female contestant on “The Celebrity Apprentice.” Rosie O’Donnell, he said, had a “fat, ugly face.” A lawyer who needed to pump milk for a newborn? “Disgusting,” he said.

The New York Times interviewed dozens of women who had worked with or for Mr. Trump over the past four decades, in the worlds of real estate, modeling and pageants; women who had dated him or interacted with him socially; and women and men who had closely observed his conduct since his adolescence. In all, more than 50 interviews were conducted over the course of six weeks.

Their accounts — many relayed here in their own words — reveal unwelcome romantic advances, unending commentary on the female form, a shrewd reliance on ambitious women, and unsettling workplace conduct, according to the interviews, as well as court records and written recollections. The interactions occurred in his offices at Trump Tower, at his homes, at construction sites and backstage at beauty pageants. They appeared to be fleeting, unimportant moments to him, but they left lasting impressions on the women who experienced them.

These stories about inappropriate behavior decades ago always make my head spin. The centerpiece of the NYT piece was the experience of Brewer Lane, a model who recounted her meeting with Trump. He asked her to try on a bathing suit and walked around with her as if showing her off (this was at a pool party). Ms. Lane felt so degraded she got her purse and left the mansion never to speak to Trump again. Oh wait, that’s not what happened:

“For Ms. Brewer Lane, her introduction to Mr. Trump at Mar-a-Lago was the start of a whirlwind romance — a heady blur of helicopter rides and high-end hotel rooms and flashing cameras.”

Even now, if you read the article closely, Lane doesn’t really have anything disparaging to say about Trump.

@p “Even now, if you read the article closely, Lane doesn’t really have anything disparaging to say about Trump.”

Seems quite damaging to me. She basically claims the he rather crudely “bought” her, and that she allowed herself to be bought is somewhat beside the point. It was a business deal for pleasure, and Trump is worse than just another john, because he’s dragging nice women into this sort of prostitution.

One of the most disturbing things in the article was the concept about ambitious women, simply equating ambition as the to willingness to trade sex for power. That’s all it is to Trump… closing the deal with prostitutes.

And Trump treated all of them like prostitutes. Some got upset and ran away (e.g. Temple Taggart–or did she?), some got upset and then acquiesced (e.g. Brewer Lane), and some just said yes and took/assumed the offered position.

The impression left is that virtually every female highly promoted within the Trump organization did it by being a willing bed partner.

Maybe Trump will promise a presidential cabinet full of women too. Guess what qualification they’ll need?

    Oy vey.

Trump still sucks; I am just offering a media critique of the article. The media is hungry for Trump misogyny material.

Maybe next time the press can find a woman to corraborate that angle.

It’s nice to see that some think that it’s okay that Trump lives his life like he is in an episode of Mad Men.

  8. John Miller says:

Donald Trump figuratively loves women. He loves their figures as long as they’re hot.

I was planning on barbecuing some pork Sunday, but that graphic is shooting that idea all to hell.
