Blevins Endorses Townsend
State Senator and President Pro Tem Patti Blevins (D-Elsmere) has endorsed her down Kirkwood Highway colleague State Senator Bryan Townsend today.
“From day one in Dover, Bryan has shown a keen intellect for understanding complicated issues and an incredible work ethic to secure solutions to them. Strong leaders know when to stand up and fight, but they also know when it’s time to work as part of a broader team to get things done. It’s that temperament and commitment to solutions that make me proud to endorse Bryan Townsend as Delaware’s next congressperson.” – Senator Patti Blevins
Townsend: “I am honored that today Senator Patti Blevins, President Pro Tempore of the Delaware State Senate, is endorsing my campaign for Congress and has offered such kind words about my legislative service in the Senate.”
This may not seem like a rather large deal, given that they are fellow upstate Democratic Senators. But Blevins is a further signal that the Dem Establishment is lining up behind Townsend now that their favorite, Bryon Short, is out. So in that case it is.
FYI – I’m setting my countdown clock.
2 years, 10 months, 1 day, 5 hours and 38 minutes until I begin my angry denunciations of Congressman Townsend for his overweening devotion to bipartisanship.
Jason, you’re showing incredible patience — waiting into Townsend’s second term before you see the light. Ten months from now should be sufficient.
Can’t we be optimistic, at least for a short time ?
It’s OK to be optimistic, but don’t be surprised with how soon you’ll be disappointed.
I was joking (kinda) about the denunciation (not really). The optimistic part is the implication that he is going to handle Hans Wriggles fairly easily.
Forget bipartisanship. Wait until Jason calls him a corporate shill… we should have a pool for that date.
Even the lowly snail has a roll to play in this ecosystem.
…..and BTW Overweening devotion to bipartisanship is the greater sin.
Elsmere is a dump.
let the lonely snail play with his “roll” as long as it isn’t gluten intolerant.
Mitch Crane FTW.
Mitch Crane with the homophone slam!!!!
Wait, I thought we hated the “Establishment”? Except when they endorse the candidates we like? With the exception being those cases where we don’t like them on that particular day? Just need to make sure I’m following the rules here…
Sure took the Senate Majority Leader long enough to endorse one of her caucus members…
“Sure took the Senate Majority Leader long enough to endorse one of her caucus members…”
Poor JTF. Grasping for a straw so frail.
LG, I want a piece of that pool.
What’s the buy in?
When you are the congressman from Delaware, being a corporate shill comes with the job. I understand that. But Carney goes above and beyond with his wholesale deficit-mongering and austerity preaching, buying into the whole Republican crackpot economic philosophy. I can understand if there are certain votes where a Delaware congressman has to vote pro-corporate. But give me a wink acnowledging “Yeah, I know that vote isn’t good for America, but we’re from Delaware, so what can you do.” Townsend is smart enough to be aware of the difference.
@JTF: The point is that even the queen of the state Democratic Party establishment is throwing in the towel. You don’t have to approve of the state party to note the development.
She’s throwing in the towel, or hoping he falls upwards?
Good point, H. Whoever replaces Townsend almost certainly will be more malleable to the will of the caucus.
Keep telling yourself that. Whatever helps you sleep at night Puck.
@DK: Are you pro-Carney or anti-Townsend?
DK expended all his intellect thinking up his screen name.
“Throwing in the towel”
Oh, I didn’t realize that Brian Townsend’s juggernaut campaign and charming personality /s had already won. I must have missed it after Brian Pettyjohn rode him hard and put him away wet.
The Republican? Oh, my goodness. I didn’t know you people still existed.
Nobody in Delaware knows who either one is, so it’s a contest between an anonymous D and an anonymous R. Townsend therefore starts with a 100,000-vote edge.
