I have to admit, this makes me a little angry. Mitch Crane is an honorable guy, who works his ass off trying to elect Democrats. Former state Rep. John C. Atkins, who pleaded guilty to a domestic violence offense in 2006 and once resigned from the General Assembly amid an ethics controversy, was arrested after a physical dispute with his ex-girlfriend, state police said late Sunday.
The Friday arrest came just days before Atkins was due to decide whether to attempt an election bid for his former 41st District seat, according to Mitch Crane, chair of the Sussex County Democratic Party.
“Atkins had been weighing a run and had had meetings with me and other key players,” Crane, who is traveling out of state, said Monday. “I was told Mr. Atkins’ decision not to run Saturday morning.”
