I am becoming increasingly enraged by the official response to the shootings in St. Paul, Baton Rouge, and Dallas. Biden speaks of “divisiveness between our police and our citizens.” Obama speaks of “healing.” Hillary speaks of “rebuilding trust between police and our communities.” All politically inoffensive pablum. Where are the proposals for concrete action and reforms? At least Hillary has a few useful proposals, like establishing national use of force guidelines. But she’s not in office.
Let’s get some legislation on the table and make it a campaign issue. Let’s put some killer cops in jail. No more military goodies for police departments who let their killer cops off the hook.
To rebuild trust with the community, stop killing the community. And also, police should not have to calculate that every young man they encounter probably has a gun in his waistband.
