Senator Cory Booker Endorses Eugene Young for Wilmington Mayor
This happened on Friday and is certainly impressive. Senator Booker has been on some lists as a potential VP candidate for Hillary Clinton, and there’s been plenty of cheerleading for him. He’s a solid progressive and defeated a fair bit of Newark public sector corruption and cronyism to win the Mayor’s seat. Here’s his pitch for Eugene Young, candidate for Mayor of Wilmington:
What is heartening is to hear Senator Booker talk about Wilmington as an important city. It is, and it needs leadership that will internalize that and work to capitalize on that.
A note to progressives — this is the kind of candidate that needs your help. I know it’s Wilmington, but solid progressive candidates are not thick on the ground here and having one in leadership in Wilmington would be huge. He’s been getting a fair amount of pushback from non-progressive interests. Try to pitch in if you can — volunteering to call or knock doors or to write a check would be helpful.

In what way is Eugene Young more progressive than the mayoral field?
1. Mayor Williams doesn’t hug thugs. Eugene Young may put them in jail, but he will hug them when they get out.
2. Mike Purzyki is a Republican. The Castle family is helping his campaign, and R’s are changing party affiliation to vote for him. I’m assuming that he isn’t feeling the Bern.
3. Kevin Kelly; love the guy and he is very progressive. Haven’t heard him discuss criminal justice as passionately as Eugene.
4. Norm Griffin; Former cop
5. Theo Gregory; Former US Prosecutor
6. Maria Cabrera; Wants more black waitresses working on the Riverfront. A very progressive platform…..in 1970.
7. Bobby Marshall; He talks more about things he did in 1993 than in this century, so in my mind, it impossible for him to be progressive if he’s still living in the 20th century.

Wasn’t Young one of Bookers body guards?
What does Booker know about Wilmington? And, of course he endorsed Eugene; he was his aide or whatever. I like Eugene, but the hype is getting old. He sounds like a mouthpiece for the people who are coaching him. I want to see him think on his feet, be able to answer questions spontaneously and seem genuine. I’m prepared for the attack here, but I don’t think he’s ready.
I think it is difficult to be in government for a city on the I-95 corridor without knowing something about your neighbors. Key bits of those cities’ problems travel that corridor, after all and are only a couple of hours away.
It’s interesting to me that we have a serious mayoral candidate who is specifically running against the insularity and small vision of the usual Wilmington government whose major criticism is that he isn’t a part of that insularity and small vision.
And if you want to see him think on his feet and answer questions spontaneously and seem genuine (whatever that means) you actually need to be with him at doors, at meet and greets and in larger interactive venues where all of this is on display.
There’s a Meet and Greet with Eugene tomorrow at Kelly’s Logan House from 7pm – 9pm. All are welcome!
booker forgot to mention that “body man” young knew where to pick up just the kind of pizza booker likes. young seems like a decent guy, but wilmington doesn’t need a mayor with so little experience. at least he’s not dennis williams.
where to pick up just the kind of pizza booker likes.
Wrong, of course, but when you can get a reference from a political star, the only thing to do is to try to denigrate that employment. It’s bullshit, of course, from people who thought that Dennis Williams had an amazing resume to lead a city. We know how that (lack of) judgement turned out.
The denigration works only for those who haven’t met the guy. Only Bryan Townsend has impressed me as much as Eugene Young. I can see them as the future of the Democratic Party.
AQC, My neighbor told me Eugene Young was Cory Booker’s campaign aid, not Booker’s legislative aid as Young and his followers want us to believe. Young’s a great cheerleader for Wilmington, but he doesn’t have a peace pipe large enough for EVERYONE he’s invited to the proverbial table. His message is stale and so are the mail pieces he’s bombarding us with.
Those campaign pieces are the product of out of state PAC money including two $50,000 out of state contributions. The mailings were sent out by the PAC not the campaign. Now we have out of state Senator Cory Booker, toady for the New York banking and finance community telling us this young inexperienced kid should be Mayor of Wilmington.
Yeah, those lit pieces cost $50,000, right. Always enjoy election year trolls.
Folks, we’ve been around for awhile. You’re more than welcome to come over here and throw this stuff up, but don’t think you’re having an impact. We’re not that naive.
