  1. pandora says:

*sigh* Now they’re interrupting Elijah Cummings (chanting “No TPP”) while he’s speaking about BLM and his memories of his dead father. Some people weren’t raised right.

  2. Dorian Gray says:

“Dear Bathurst was a man to my very heart’s content; he hated a fool, and he hated a rogue, and he hated a Whig — he was a very good hater!” –Dr Johnson

  3. pandora says:

    Sanders’ Press Secretary tweets:

    Symone D. Sanders @SymoneDSanders
But let me be clear – NO ONE STOLE THIS ELECTION! Team Sanders we did AMAZING WORK. But we lost. It’s a hard reality for some.

This reality message probably should have been put forth sooner.

    And via TPM:

Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) is urging Bernie Sanders supporters at the Democratic convention to come together and rally behind Hillary Clinton or risk electing Donald Trump.

As Sanders delegates hint they could walk out on Clinton’s acceptance speech at the Democratic convention, Ellison – who endorsed Sanders– is urging them to think about the bigger picture.

“I am just saying the logic of playing spoiler to the advantage of Trump does not make any sense to me if you call yourself a Bernie supporter,” Ellison told TPM in a phone interview Monday.

    […]

Ellison said he is proud of the movement Sanders built, but that if “Bernie or Bust” delegates and supporters aren’t careful “they are going to sabotage the whole Democratic process in favor of Donald Trump.”

“I want someone to explain to me how they are Bernie or bust but Bernie is not,” Ellison said.

It’s hard to put the genie back in the bottle. I’m going to get a glass of wine. Wanna join me?

  4. Jason330 says:

Watching now. Clinton is going to try and brazen this out, but it ant going to work. Sanders people are PISSED. Trump is now the prohibitive favorite and he will continue to be if Clinton tries to scare everyone with the prospect of Trump.

Lisa Rochester running 30 second commericals during DNC

  6. Jason330 says:

Clinton (and even Sanders now) need to offer something tangible. Something other than Trump is scary.

  7. pandora says:

Jason, what exactly do you want the winner (by a big effing margin) of the D primary to do?

  8. Jason330 says:

I don’t know but it better be something good or this is all coming apart.

  9. Jason330 says:

    Chris. What network?

  10. Jason330 says:

Just saw the LBR ad. Not bad.

  11. pandora says:

I’m drinking wine. Leave it to Dems to turn an easy win into a sh*t show. We are such an embarrassment. BTW, we all own this. No more pretending only certain people are responsible.

Today I asked Dana what more he wanted from the DNC mess. I didn’t get an answer. Could someone please tell me what the point of this is? I’ve been watching Sanders delegates being interviewed. Talk about wince inducing.

That said, people are getting annoyed with this behavior. My advice is to be careful how far you push something. There’s a fine line between sympathy and scorn. That’s my fortune cookie wisdom.

  12. Jason330 says:

I don’t have any respect for people who say there is no difference between Clinton and Trump. However, Clinton cannot keep abusing liberals and expect them to vote out of fear of Trump.

  13. Jason330 says:

What abuse? The VP pick and the collusion with the DNC come to mind.

  14. puck says:

“Today I asked Dana what more he wanted from the DNC mess. ”

Wrong question and wrong person to ask. There’s nothing to do but apologize graciously (already done) and move forward, also graciously and with an element of having been chastened. The emotions of random Bernie supporters are high right now and not going to follow your script. DWS is gone three hours and DNC is already working to restore its integrity.

  15. pandora says:

So what do you want? Seriously, can one Bernie supporter answer this? From where I’m sitting I think the answer is they want the DNC to give Bernie the nomination. Is that it?

  16. puck says:

The speeches are already written so I don’t know what can be done but to soldier on. Personally I would like to see a quiet purge of the remaining guilty at DNC, or at least Bernie should receive that through back channels. On the podium, renewed pledges of reform would be welcome. Hillary should humbly take into account her mandate is not as big as she thought it was, and her leverage for spurning Bernie on TPP (platform) and other issues was perhaps unfairly obtained.

  17. Delaware Dem says:

From a Facebook post from a Sanders supporter in Texas that I am friends with:

Ugh. I am embarrassed to have ever called myself a Bernie supporter. My apologies to Senator Sanders—I don’t think this was your vision. My apologies Madame Secretary—the difference between America and less peaceful parts of the world has always been our ability to have a peaceful and orderly transition of power. My apologies to women, children, elderly and the infirm—May your American heal her ugly wounds.

  18. Delaware Dem says:

I am seeing that sentiment a lot on Twitter. The Bernie/Trump delegates are turning people against them.

  19. Delaware Dem says:

Jason, make up your mind on the VP pick. Saturday you loved it.

  20. pandora says:

And today he liked my take on the DNC emails. Go figure.

  21. Jason330 says:

I was putting myself in the mind of a a sanders delegate. I like Kaine but I hate to see our nominee fucking up.

  22. puck says:

If it helps, try staying off social media and just watch the straight CSPAN feed. It looks like a normal upbeat Dem convention full of unity and none of this angst.

  23. pandora says:

I’m sure that’s true, puck, but the rest of the world is watching the networks while tweeting and FBing. I’m following the pulse of America. (I just cracked myself up!)

  24. SussexWatcher says:

TNJ’s crack political writer investigates how the Delaware delegation … is dealing with the heat.

Also talks with somebody named “Erik Razer-Schramm.” Whoever that is.

    http://www.delawareonline.com/story/news/politics/2016/07/25/dnc-first-day/87539598/

  25. You don’t know Erik? He should be the new State D Chair, if party officials have a clue.

I’m serious. He’s by far one of the best we’ve got.

  26. SussexWatcher says:

His name is Raser-Schramm, not Razer. That was my point.

  27. ex-anonymous says:

just saw a delegate whining that bernie voters have had their feelings hurt and something (else) must be done to make them feel better. grow up. it’s not about your feelings. there’s no crying in politics.

and stopping trump is a totally good reason to support hillary, as long as she’s so clearly better than trump. sorry if some of you are pouting because you can’t feel the old youthful enthusiasm. be adults.

on the other hand, a little of eljah cummings (or almost any of these people) goes a long way. and, uh, demi lovato?

  28. pandora says:

Based on some reports I’m reading, Sanders is afraid his supporters will boo Michelle Obama.

  29. pandora says:

Uh oh. Sarah Silverman just told the Bernie or Bust people inside the hall that they are being ridiculous.

  30. Dave says:

It’s kind of a shame that she needed to do that. The way she articulated her support and vote for Clinton, while still fighting for those principles represented by Sanders was classy. Class wins every time.

  31. EvolvDE says:

    #Where’sGarfunkel!?!?!?! Sheesh.

While the Bernie supporters are out of hand, am I the only one who is delighting in the fact that we have free speech at the DNC? People can voice their opinions, reasonable or otherwise, loudly of softly, without fear of being booted by gun-wielding knuckle-draggers. Or being beat up by them. Peaceful protests in the streets that are loud and alive. Democracy in action. It ain’t always pretty and easy. While the divided crowd seems like a big deal now, we will have 45 scandals between now and November, and most voters have an incredibly short memory….

Kudos to Sarah Silverman and Al Franken for pushing through their “stretch” over the rowdy crowd. Don’t think I’ve ever seen Sarah Silverman look so uncomfortable and confused!

  32. cassandra_m says:

It’s kind of a shame that she needed to do that.

That’s kind of her schtick, but I think it got cut off.

  33. Dave says:

Good speech by Booker. If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far go together.

  34. Dave says:

    Correction. Great speech.

  35. jason330 says:

That Booker speech was a barn burner.

  36. pandora says:

Have we mentioned that Cory Booker endorsed Eugene Young for mayor. 🙂 Pretty cool!

  37. I love Michelle Obama.

  38. pandora says:

“We trusted you” being chanted at Elizabeth Warren. Ugh.

  39. EvolvDE says:

Michele Obama was amazing. And Warren finally has the crowd booing the right person: Trump.

  40. jason330 says:

The Bernie or Bust people really are jerks.

  41. pandora says:

    Bernie in the house!

  42. Dana Garrett says:

Funny how that guy who isn’t a loyal Democrat, sure is sounding like a team player. The best support of Hillary given all night is coming from his lips.

  43. pandora says:

Michelle Obama’s speech is tough to beat.

  44. puck says:

Well done all. A good mix of feel-good emotional appeals and Trump-bashing. Then Bernie made sure to list and remind us of all the specific policy goals most of the other speakers couldn’t seem to fit into their soaring rhetoric, especially the ones negotiated late in the primary that seemed not to be mentioned much. Seems to be more than enough unity.

  45. ex-anonymous says:

i’m sorry, but the bernie-or-bust people are really looking like idiots. the tv interviews are not doing them any favors. maybe millennials really are that stupid.

“i would vote my heart, not my brain,” says one of them. what?

    agree about michelle.

  46. John Young says:

love or hate the Bernie or Busters…ignore them at your peril seems the real message HRC needs to digest.

  47. mouse says:

I want to hear her say:

    1. We have pissed away trillions on Middle East wars that have done nothing but create more instability and misery. We could have used that money to rebuid America’s infrastructure. We need to shift the burden to ME nations and bring our troops home.

    2. We need to pass legislation to ensure that we have a clean renewable energy infrastructure that will build jobs and and security in our own nation. This issue is interconnected with number 1.

    3. We need to pass laws that create disencentives for the 1% CEO class to screw American workers by moving jobs over seas for child labor in Asia where there are no worker protections or environmental safety laws. The trade deals we have signed have all made billions for the 1% while diminishing the standard of living for average Americans.

    4. We have given millions of poor people health care that have never had it before but health care reform has left out the middle class keeping insurance unaffordable for much of them. We need a public option or to break up the health insurance monopoly and have true western democracy coverge like the rest of the civilized world.

    5. Our university system is the best in the world and we need to assure it is available to all Americans without having to go into cripling debt. This is a national security and of existential importance to our nation.

    6. We need to re-evaluate every federal program to assure it serves more than the interests of the 1% and reallocate funds where the interests of the many are not served. This particularly true in energy, education and defense programs.

    7. Because of our tax structure, we are incurring trillions of debt that will be passed on to our kids. We need a tax structure that collects funds from the 1% in a way that better ballances the federal budget.

I have heard none of this from Clinton..

  48. pandora says:

Then don’t vote for her. I’ve come to accept that you weren’t going to any way. That’s fine.

  49. mouse says:

I’m still on the fence but leaning Stein. If you yell at me some more, I may come around

  50. pandora says:

Nope. I’m done wooing. I’ve been busy working on a campaign where we’re registering new voters. I’m going to focus on them. Good luck!

  51. mouse says:

    Well now I’m hurt

  52. pandora says:

I’m sorry. I really am, but you’re a grown up. I’ve made my case. Agree or disagree. It’s your decision.

  53. liberalgeek says:

I swear, I’m not sure what’s worse, holding the hands of people that agree with Hillary on 95% of the issues or arguing with Trump supporters that glory in worrying the people that need their hands held.

  54. pandora says:

I know, LG. People like mouse will vote for Hillary or they won’t. They already know pretty much what they’re doing in November and really don’t need me or you to make the case. This comes across as a cry for attention. So, I wish them well, but I’m moving on.

  55. Jason330 says:

No true Sanders supporter could ever vote for Trump. The ones that do (or claim that they will) are crackpots and losers who happened to warm up to Sanders for a little while. They found a hobby. If it wasn’t Sanders it would have been ancient aliens.

  56. mouse says:

But I need attention from women and I’m not grown up

  57. mouse says:

I’m honestly unsure if I will vote for Clinton or Stein. The political machine needs to be punished.

  58. Liberal Elite says:

@J “No true Sanders supporter could ever vote for Trump.”

I know a misogynist or two who really seemed like a true Sanders supporter.

I think there quite a few out there that can’t stand the thought of having a tough woman in the White House. It’s really not so different from those Dem racists who refused to vote for Obama… (and they’re probably one and the same).

So… let’s not pretend that these nasty people don’t exist.

  59. liberalgeek says:

I know a guy that used to take any injuries that his car caused (scraped knuckles removing a nut, etc) out on the car. He could walk around the car an point to places where he had kicked or punched the car.

“This dent is where I kicked the car for hurting my knuckles when I replaced the brake pads.”

I guess it made him feel better. It was good for a laugh. But he drove around in a car that was dimpled by kicks, punches and the occasional tire iron.

If it makes you feel better, whack away, mouse. Just don’t call us if you need a ride to work.

  60. mouse says:

    Ouch
