Lisa Blunt Rochester Tries to Trick Voters into Contributing to Her Campaign.

So. Lisa Blunt Rochester sends out the following e-mail:

Friends,

This week we celebrate the 51st anniversary of the Voting Rights Act being signed into law. It is a piece of legislation that guarantees all Americans—no matter their race—the right to vote.

For the first time in half a century, we are facing an election without the Voting Rights Act’s full safeguards. In recent years, we’ve seen voting rights under attack as discriminatory voting rules are rolled out across the nation.

We are making progress towards letting every eligible voter have access to the ballot box, but we cannot stop now. Add your name and stand up for voting rights today.

These discriminatory laws disproportionately affect minority communities. Our nation is one of the oldest democracies in the world, and yet there are some who are proud to undermine our right to vote.

We need to stand up and demand the preservation of the Voting Rights Act for generations to come. Add your name now to say: EVERY eligible voter deserves to cast a ballot.

Thank you for standing with me.

Lisa

I have delinked the links (in bold) b/c they don’t take you to a petition. Or a letter to elected officials.  They take you directly to a Vote Blue campaign donation page for Lisa Blunt Rochester (they already have the final four digits of my number from previous contributions), no mention of voting rights whatsoever.  So, if you wanted to add your voice to supporting the Voting Rights Act, the links will not enable you to do so. The only action you can take is to give a contribution to LBR.  Pretty sneaky, IMHO.  Damn sneaky, in fact.
