Pete’s not my favorite guy by any means, but I’m not following your point on this one. It’s his fault that a supporter of his also supports Trump? Or are you equating Trump with Pete? If it’s the latter, that’s really not a fair comparison, or do you honestly think they are cut from the same cloth?
This is something that’s troubled me for a while now – isn’t Claire Snyder-Hall the head of Common Cause? Isn’t it inappropriate for her to be engaged in this kind of bashing or any sort of electioneering/campaigning for or against individual candidates? I get that she dislikes her current state representative and she’s entitled to her own opinion, but maybe Claire shouldn’t be leading an organization that is issued based and doesn’t make endorsements for individual candidates?
I would like to have the address of this house with both signs outside. The picture was a subject of discussion last night as a rally for Pete and no one has seen a Trump sign next to a Pete sign. I have been all over the district myself. Most all Trump signs are by themselves-and off center, like the candidate.
I live in the 14th. I have seen Trump signs, but not a vast amount and Swartzkopf signs (many more), but never both at the same place. I’ll hazard a guess that this is an outlier.
This is Sussex County after all where alt right means no one with a (D) after their name is acceptable and even some of the (R)s (Lopez) do not meet the purity test. Generally that means if you are for Trump, you are against just about everyone else, except for Lacey Lafferty.
“If he was just a State Rep from eastern Sussex County, it would matter a lot less to many of us, but he’s not.”
Yep, I get that and I get the criticism because Pete is at best center left and certainly not progressive. I made the comment, because more casual readers of this blog, might wonder why Pete can get elected considering the disdain DL holds for him.
A lot of people may not realize that DL is not Democrat as much as it is progressive. That’s not a criticism. Just an observation. So they might not full understand why there vitriol regarding Swartzkopf on DL.
I’m a progressive because I’m practical, and I like results. I’m a Democrat because that is the party of practicality these days, and as a Democrat, I hate the fact that Pete votes with the Republican caucus, undermines and shuts off Democratic proposals, and recruits Republicans to change their party affiliation to run as Democrats.
I love you too @Jason330, and I respect @Anonymous. I am not devoted to Pete. I just sincerely believe he serves his district and the rest of Sussex County well. We just disagree on this one (but on little else) and, Anonymous, you are right. Neither will go away any time soon.
@Mitch: I understand the situation you are in, and I agree with you that he serves his district well. I don’t know if he’s serving the rest of the county, which he isn’t responsible for as either a state rep or Speaker. If he’s taking care of “the rest of Sussex” at the expense of the majority of the state, that gives upstaters another reason to work to defeat him, first at the polls, then in caucus.
His agenda has unfortunately become the Democratic Party agenda, and except for its commitment to civil rights for all, that agenda isn’t just “not progressive,” it’s atavistic and authoritarian.
From a liberal/progressive standpoint, Schwartzkopf must be removed for any progress to be achieved in Dover.
The Delaware House and it’s “leadership” are probably the most depressing part of Delaware government. I think you can count on one hand the number of people there who have an IQ over 60.
And he just endorsed Park City Kathy
Least surprising, and hopefully least helpful endorsement ever.
What a pile of haters…soooooo jealous?!?
Dye PCK blonde and she looks like Pam Bondi.

Claire posted this on her Facebook page as a private citizen. It’s not like she’s a judge. She is allowed to have a political opinion and share it.
Common Cause is just her keep-me-in-the-news gig until she can run for something else.
It’s his fault that a supporter of his also supports Trump? No. It reveals somerhing about his supporters though.
Or are you equating Trump with Pete? Yes
Do you honestly think they are cut from the same cloth? They are appealing to the same voters for a reason.
The most exculpatory thing I can say is that it is possible that this is the house of a crazy person married to a Dixiecrat.

so-picture taker-the address, or was it staged?
Staged my ass. Give me a break Crane. I try to be on your side so much, but your Pete devotion is nauseating.

As I said before, I recognize that north of the canal, Peter is not very popular. But he isn’t running there. In the 14th he is well liked.
You’re right, Dave. It’s b/c Schwartzkopf is the House Speaker and is generally to the right of his caucus, many of whom are afraid of the guy.
If he was just a State Rep from eastern Sussex County, it would matter a lot less to many of us, but he’s not.
I also noticed that there is a Bethany Hall-Long sign outside of Sam Wilson’s auction house along with his plethora of Republican signs…..
“I would like to have the address of this house with both signs outside.”
And I would like you to go away, and neither of us is going to get what we want.
A guy in Sussex is free to support whomever he wants. Why is everybody getting all riled up about this? Ridiculous. Its called FREEDOM, folks.
And we’re free to ridicule him. It’s called FREEDOM, Chris.

Is that enough?
I wouldn’t mind him voting with the Republican caucus if he weren’t leader of the Democratic caucus.
Pete is a fairly nice guy when you meet him, friendly and outgoing. You don’t see his real temperament until you disagree with him.
Dave: You and I agree.
