Driver charged with assaulting Middletown officer after traffic stop
The Middletown Police Department reported that two officers were pushed and one suffered head injuries after a traffic stop this morning on U.S. Route 301 north of Broad Street.
At 11:20 a.m., Middletown police conducted a traffic stop of a driver of a silver Pontiac Bonneville for a seatbelt violation.
A records check revealed the passenger, Joshua Ray, 21, of Middletown, had an active capias issued by New Castle County Family Court. Ray was taken into custody without incident.
He would have been “a thug with a criminal past”, so it would have been totally different if he was black. /sarcasm
I demand to know why he wasn’t shot on the spot
The “assault” could have been as simple as the suspect pulling his hand back when the cop grabbed him. They lie when the “perp” is white, too, just as they do when the perp is black.
BTW, the passenger had no requirement to tell police officers who he is. Seat belt violation tickets go to the driver, if I’m not mistaken. You could have Charles Manson riding shotgun and you don’t have to tell the cops who it is.
Let’s see the dash cam. Oh wait, we don’t use them.
“Myers was charged with the seatbelt violation, resisting arrest with force or violence, and second-degree assault on a law enforcement officer, police said. He is currently awaiting arraignment on those charges.”
True, the police can say anything about the interaction. The one thing we know is that if he was black he wouldn’t be awaiting arraignment because he’d be dead.
True, but this works the other way too – no doubt that unarmed white men have been killed by police, but I never see it on the news and it certainly does not spark protests.
