Poll: Carney, Rochester Cruising
The University of Delaware Poll that had Hillary winning Delaware over Trump by 21 points also has her down ballot Democrats doing well, unsurprisingly.
The poll showed Democrat John Carney beating Republican challenger Colin Bonini in all three counties–garnering 57 percent of the vote compared to Bonini’s 25 percent. […] The poll also found a fourth of Republicans surveyed said they would vote for Carney. His support also came from men and women–across all age groups and ethnicity. Libertarian candidate Sean Goward received 4 percent of the vote while Independent Andrew Gross got 3 percent. Eleven percent of voters are undecided in the governor’s race.
Meanwhile, Lisa Blunt Rochester leads Republican Hans Reigle by 20 points, 46% to 26%.
The poll found Blunt Rochester leading Reigle by just 5 percent among white respondents while 69 percent of African American respondents said they’d vote for her. In New Castle County, Blunt Rochester leads Reigle by 31 points. Her lead capsizes further downstate to just 5 points in Kent County and 4 points in Sussex County. Libertarian candidate Scott Gesty has 6 percent of the vote compared to the Green Party’s Mark Perri, who got 5 percent.
I’m sure Carney will view this as a mandate for mediocrity.
Was talking yesterday about state of the Delaware GOP with one of Pete du Pont’s prominent staff members during his second term. While he acknowledged the party’s weakness, we agreed that the Carney/Carper/Coons trio would fit comfortably within the Mike Castle wing of the Delaware GOP. In that context, there’s no need for Republicans to field a strong ticket, because the Dems are already assembling one for them.
These pictures, though.
Was Lisa doing karaoke? If so, what song?
I’ll go with “You Keep Me Hangin’ On”.
Your turn.
Carney is doing the Culture Club Hit, ‘Karma Chameleon’
BTW – I’ve asked around. Nobody has heard anything from any candidates running for statewide offices this year. It is quieter out there than a recently rebuked Melania Trump.
