Chapman and Spadola are the only Delaware GOP candidates to renounce Trump

While Charlie Copeland is sickened, the implication is that he is still happily voting for Donald Trump, since he did not say otherwise. Only Meredith Chapman and James Spadola have declared that Trump is unfit for the Presidency.

Chapman:

“The leader of the free world is someone who should be tolerant, accepting and respectful to all,” Meredith Chapman, a candidate for the Newark-area 8th Senate District seat currently held by Sen. Dave Sokola, said in a Facebook post. “Donald Trump’s comments clearly show he is not fit for the position.”

Well, technically, she did not say she is not voting for him or supporting him. So I guess it is an open question as to whether Ms. Chapman is voting for him even though she feels he is unfit for the Presidency. And if Ms. Chapman feels the President is someone who should be tolerant, accepting and respectful to all, why exactly is she a Republican? Republicans are not known for their tolerance. Ask any minority or gay person.

And Chapman is already facing some blowback. Trump supporter and failed 2014 candidate Sam Chick criticized Chapman by saying “Glad you’re standing up for what you believe in, Meredith. I hope you make a similar post denouncing Hillary Clinton for her support of the bigots and oppressors controlling Saudi Arabia as well as the predator she’s married to.”

James Spadola, a candidate for the 1st Senate District currently held by Democratic Senator Harris McDowell, also does not support Trump, but, to his credit, his opposition comes from before the Sexual Assault Video.

“Our party nominated a pig, and that’s going to make us all have to work a lot harder,” said Spadola, who said he was telling voters before the video disclosure that he does not support Trump.

Other Republican candidates in the state also continue to support and endorse Trump, notably, the party’s candidate for Governor:

“I think the comments are tremendously offensive, and I thought it was appropriate for him to apologize.” But he did not revoke his support for Trump. “The two key components of the Trump candidacy are the message that the government is broken and the message that people who run our government are way out of touch with most Americans,” Bonini said. “I think those two ideas are still true and still important.”

And the sickened Charlie Copeland?

“Our party is better than what we heard today, and we need to demand better from our standard bearer.”
