This isn’t “like fascism” it is fascism
This is the way the world works now.
1) Trumps says some easily disprovable outrageous nonsense, such claiming that he convinced the air conditioner manufacturer, Carrier, to keep 1,100 jobs in the U.S.
2) Someone in the know disproves the easily disprovable nonsense, (similar to how a Union Rep, Chuck Jones pointed out on CNN that more than 1,200 Carrier employees will still lose their positions to Mexico) thereby becoming a target.
3) Trump makes the attack on the target personal.
4) The target receives threats of violence against himself and his children.
“Nothing that says they’re gonna kill me, but, you know, you better keep your eye on your kids,” Jones said of the threats he’s received. “We know what car you drive. Things along those lines.”
This is the normalizing phase. We become accustomed to his tweets as a way of doing business. We pretend that his cabinet appointees are serious appointments because they get to appear on all the news shows as talking heads. We pay attention to the circus while Paul Ryan prepares his agenda.
But that’s not the bad part, horrifying as it seems. The first part is the normalization of a post-truth era, the second part is the normalization of violent/threatening language, but the third part will be …
… the normalization of violence itself by state and then paramilitary or “patriot” organizations.
And the Democrats are still arguing over why Clinton lost.
My god, this is so disgusting.
Oh, and I forgot to say, phase 3.1 (of violence) is the “Night of the Long Knives” sub-phase wherein the “true patriots” of the inner circle will turn on the Trumpistas in Name Only (TINOs).
Donald Trump: Making Gun owners out of Liberals since 2016. Seriously Comrades, its time arm ourselves and mount up, it is about to get real up in here.
Come on Professor your better than that.
@stat–I’m willing to be considered foolish if I’m wrong. I am not willing to be silent.
If you don’t see the potential for this, you’re not looking.
Let me point out to you that back as far as January/February I was one of the few people telling you that Trump could win the Presidency. Everybody except jason thought I was wrong then, too.
We are in unprecedented territory. I agree with C Sparks and Professor Newton. Better to be prepared considering how this looks already.
I was skeptical of Steve’s warning. I didn’t dismiss it outright, but I didn’t buy it really. Seemed far fetched. I remember he referenced the Sinclair Lewis novel ‘It Can Happen Here.’ I replied with a bit about the Roth novel The Plot Against America. But again I failed to appreciate the full picture. I admit it. Prof Newton was correct then and I implore everyone to listen to him now. Get yourself ready for Confederate flags at the inaugural. Think on that.
